I wouldn't say Newton has never been a good passer. He's never been consistent as a passer, which probably won't improve at his age, but he's shown plenty of very hot flashes as a passer over the years. The man threw for over 400 yards in each of his first 2 career starts and had a pretty dominant passing season when he won MVP.

Cam (or Stidham) won't be running an offense designed for Brady. Bill is smarter than that. There are so many more possibilities now and other teams will have to account for it. The book on Brady has always been pressure up the middle. Now it's a little different with Cam there.

There's nothing "clear" when it involves Stidham as we've never seen him play as a pro. He has the potential to be a better more accurate passer than Cam based on college stats but he still has to perform. Cam would be smart to stay on as a backup. He could heal for another season, he could possibly win a ring and he may even play if Stidham got hurt. I don't think it's a given he's the starter.

One thing that is very clear now, Brady initiated the break up not BB. This "plan" by BB is to throw junk at the wall and see what sticks. He must have really thought Brady was going to come crawling back for less money than last year.

Don't mind Cam, but will not enjoy his cadence at the line of scrimmage..It has always irked me.

Exactly. This is my issue with everyone coming here with completion percentages, passing yards and their gut projections that his "legs are useless". Football is played on the field and not in an excel sheet.

We have a clever and creative coaching staff that excels at situational football. Let them do their thing with a QB who opens up an entirely new page in the playbook. Especially with Fisch joining the offensive staff this could work out quite well.

They assigned a monetary value to where they projected Brady to be in 2020. He wanted more than that and both sides moved on with the cards that were dealt to them. There is nothing wrong with any of this.

I doubt BB will give Brady any thought this year, unless they meet in the postseason.

Sure but my point is BB thought Brady would accept that deal. He didn't. And here we are with the worst set of QBs in the league. It is so bad that there are articles surmising that Newton was brought in to be the back up to Stidham because Hoyer is so bad. We literally have a barrel full of crap right now at the most important position.

I am not saying you are wrong. My gut feeling is just that Newton will ask to be released if he can't start and depending on the roster bonus -- which we should hear soon about -- the Pats will most probably oblige. But that's just my read on Cam Newton.

Maybe but he won't be laughing if Bill and the Patriots do better than his new team in 2020. The perception of who made who after that will be obvious.

What i don’t understand is that it was the perfect year to evaluate our talent on the roster. If we go maybe 9-7 or 10-6 with cam and get bounce in the first round in the playoff it give us nothing. We don’t know what Stidham has, we don’t have a good 1rd pick and Cam will ask for 20+ mil.

Instead of letting Stidham play, see if he sucks or not. If, indeed he suck, you have maybe a top 5 pick and if he doesn’t you probably have your QB of the futur. So I really don’t understand the logic of bringing a guy like him.

The logic is BB sees Stidham as a 4th round pick who is a back up. I mean that is abundantly clear right now.

It's not that hard to understand that. Like it or not, but the staff is approaching the season with the intent to win. They are not treating the upcoming season as a bonus evaluation season like you are suggesting they should do.

He has a golden opportunity in NE even if he isn't he starter. I'm sure McD will roll him in a few packages. And if he plays well in a limited role next year, he could possibly double or triple what he's making in NE in 2021.

No it isn't. Otherwise they would've offered Newton more than the veteran's minimum. If Stidham outperforms Newton in training camp / pre-season Newton could very well be cut by the time the regular season starts (if and when it starts).

Why waste a year? You have a good defense that isn’t getting any younger. Why hand tie them with an unproven QB if you don’t have to?

Never understood the faith this board had in Stidham. If he was in the same situation on any other team nobody hear would care about whether he got a chance.

Cam’s also 31 and we have cap. If he’s back to form and can play, you can lock him up for 3-5 years easy and you have that position solved and more time to find that in a draft.

I don’t know why anyone thought Stidham was worth putting everything on hold for

Cam couldn’t get a physical so his value was down. I don’t know why people think Bill would have paid someone more if he didn’t have to

Of course his value was down. But in the end, he wasn't promised the starting job and he was given a contract that makes it extremely easy to cut him. If the Patriots really planned him in as surefire starter, I believe the contract would look somewhat different, respective they would've signed him earlier.
