You mean to tell me a black man can't do any better than the next white coach for the Browns?

I believe the lyric you're looking for is,

...comin' straight from the underground,
A young [head coach candidate] got it bad 'cause the Browns
Just draft the other color, execs need to think
They have the authority to hire a minority

I like the idea of the proposal, but not the actual proposal itself. It is a conversation starter and should be a useful tool to get a better outcome than the Rooney Rule. Maybe a digger deep into the issue (if there is one) will emerge because of this proposal. There is a chance that the actual number of minority candidates is not as large of a number as the % of minorities in this country. More info is needed, but I like the idea of making sure the "good ole' boy" network isn't a substantial reason for the low percentage of minority hires. Good discussion everyone.

God? in CA? WTF. Atheism maybe, but God...hmmm?

If the Gods are in CA and NY, does that mean all the demons are in all the other states? These are big questions, thanks for the "heady" thoughts.

The proposal, conversation, idea or whatever term youd like to use is racist.

In terms of the Gods. I cannot be blunt and come right out and state the truth. 2 states have immense power over the remainder if this country. A smaht man like yourself should be able to add 1 plus 1 and come up with 2. Use your toes if need be.

This is disingenuous, the number of african americans who play football compared to the coach ratio is the issue. And I don't think the proposal is a good idea, but this is just irresponsible use of stats.

Why is the players/coach ratio important?

The proposal is bad, but, goddamn, reading these comments, a lot of y'all are assholes. You mean to tell me a black man can't do any better than the next white coach for the Browns? Like someone else said, 70% of players are black, but somehow struggle to become HC. Same thing with playing at QB.

And before you jump on me, no, I'm not saying the league should be 100% black, but it is weird how in the most important roles on a team, in terms of leadership, whites dominate.

Browns HC Hue Jackson won 1 GAME in 2 years for the Browns.

The racist Browns brought him back for year 3, but had to fire him mid season because he is a bad HC. In year 3 Jackson was 2 - 5 - 1 Total record 3 wins - 36 losses - 1 Tie

Take your racism horse5hit down the road.

There should definitely be a multi faceted approach to improving diversity, but it should never directly affect the rules governing fair competition on the field.

I'd like to see on facet be a grooming program. Whether it is implemented in high school, college, recruiting players that don't get drafted or have short careers or any combo of the 3 it could be a real "game changer". Probably way too expensive for such a cash starved organization. <----Last line is sarcasm

Lots of people scoff at the idea of increasing diversity, but I think there would be a lot less resistence if it was done in a genuine, thoughtful manner. Unfortunately, that's not how the NFL does things.

Why is diversity for diversity's sake as a goal a good thing? How would the quality of product suffer if we mandated certain levels of diversity on the playing field?

Diversity as a merit-based result = great.

Diversity as a goal simply for the sake of diversity = moronic.

so much racism at QB that Patrick Mahomes, Cam Newton, jameis Winston, Russell Wilson, deshaun Watson, Lamar jackson, Jacoby Brissett, Dak prescott, kyler murray, Dwayne Haskins. Even Mariota started before getting benched.

I think Haskins was the only one that didn’t enter the season as a starter

If white people were being oppressed then you’d be right. It’s proven that people are more likely to hire people that look like themselves.

Black people are being oppressed in the NFL? Can I sign up for that oppression?

I think you're missing what's a good point though by that poster. If 70% of the players are black I think it's a little weird that super inexperienced white QB coaches are repeatedly jumping straight to Head Coach and only 2 of 32 head coaches are black. That does seem weird to me.

Why?

If you’re talking about IAT, the science behind that is questionable

One black coach failed and had several awful seasons out of how many garbage white coaches? Eat a ****.

You underestimate the value of a wide range of viewpoints within a group.

We're not talking about diversity of viewpoints. We're talking about diversity of skin color when the goal is supposed to be moving toward a colorblind world.

Diversity of thought > diversity of skin color.

What about the nba? 75
One black coach failed and had several awful seasons out of how many garbage white coaches? Eat a ****.
You criticized the browns for having a white coach.

Are you implying black head coaches have been incredibly successful?
Plus why would you equate a coaches success with his color?
Is there something about a persons race that would predetermine their success, or are people just people and each individual has their own abilities?

I mean Marvin Lewis was the head coach of the bengals for how many years without winning a playoff game?

Great list. Now name me all the white QBs. Including backup QBs. I'm sure the list is much larger. And since you brought up Cam Newton, looks like he's still a free agent. Yet ****ing Andy Dalton and Fitzpatrick still have jobs. Or are you going to tell me those guys are way more qualified to be in the NFL than him?

They have 70% of the jobs.
That doesn't mean they have an advantage. There are specific reasons why African Americans go into certain sports. It has a lot to do with mentors and role models....It is a sign of the structural inequality in our socio-economic system. There have been a lot of studies, you might choose to look at and educate yourself. Or you can just half-arse it from the peanut gallery.

So your a argument is that black people are being oppressed in NFL HC hiring? Can you give a couple examples of who exactly was oppressed?
