1.) This is our "official" 2020 draft thread? Or will there be another one set up later? Here or in the draft forum?

2.) For #23, they guy I like best is the Penn State kid.....Yetur Gross-Matos....raw talent.....big enough to set the edge and still give us pressure....

3.) That being said, I really want us to trade back and possibly double dip between #23-#87. I would package both #23 & #87 for two picks in between....perhaps something like #32 and #50.

4.) *IF* the Patriots take a QB tonight...while it would be bad news for Stidham, I will be excited anyway....as it will be BB's highest drafted QB ever in 20 years. That would mean that BB was SOLD based on tape....

He put up the greatest statistical QB season ever in the hardest conference. The next Peyton or Tim Duncan, a sure thing

.

That's quite the claim. I mean, Andy Dalton he is not, but he was awful in 2018 and played behind a very good offensive line and possibly the best collection of receivers (and receiving backs) in the history of college football in 2019. I think he's fine but for most of the year he was throwing from a completely clean pocket to completely open receivers, just pitch and catch. People should absolutely be a little skeptical of any player who goes from zero to hero overnight in that context.

I mean who would he take? Tua and Herbert probably gone after the chargers and dolphins pick. The dolphins really want a qb. He would have to trade up to the single digits. Something I've never seen from belichick. Jordan love isn't all that impressive

No idea...but *if* BB is SOLD on one of those guys...I am going to get excited....

If not, I am already excited about Stidham....and hope they just give him competition with Hoyer....and not bring in Cam/Dalton/Winston.

My expectation for Burrow's career is "great but not elite" for years to come. If the Dolphins want to give up everything for that, more power to them.

Reminder when looking at Pats drafts ...

Bill drafts a prospect when value meets need. BPA is a factor but not nearly as much as other teams. Everyone drafts for need. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Value + need if you go back and look at our drafts. Old drafts, new ones. Can't deny it.

Bill loves drafting teammates. 12 times over his tenure here I believe. Bill doesn't mind going back to a school he hit up the previous year(s) and has a thing for drafting teammates. Probably has something to do with making the most of a scouts time.

"No surprises" Bill doesn't want surprises. He values steady, solid & knowing what he's getting > upside/talent etc... Very few of those picks throughout the rounds, throughout the history of his tenure. "Win now" as opposed to projects for the future. You'll see more guys like Hightower, Mayo, Sony, Wynn, Wilfork, Wino, Wise than Chandler Jones, Collins etc
But this doesn't explain the annual WTF 2nd round DB

Perhaps Miami is interested in Love at 18, and will move to 3 for an OT.

OT: Todd McShay of ESPN has Covid and won't participate tonight...a real shame.

nah watch the last 4 games of 2018. Dude balled out. They essentially asked him to be a game manager all year and wouldn’t let him do much. The talent around him in 2018 wasn’t drastically different than it was in 2019. The scheme changed and they figured out how to use the kid.

Tua had more talent around him than burrow

I assume you're including the bowl game in 2018, because he was really bad against Bama that year. They played Rice, Arkansas, A&M, and UCF in those four games and the A&M stats are hugely inflated because it went to a million OTs. Hardly murderer's row.

Tua also had great talent around him but we're talking about comparing Burrow to Peyton Manning, not the rest of his draft class.

I've liked LSU since I was a kid (no real reason) so I watch most of their games, I'm not pulling the claim he was bad in 2018 out of nothing. I have questions about his arm strength and how he'll react once things start going badly, and I feel like the Bengals aren't a great match for a quarterback like him because Green and Ross are vertical threats.

Tua's got the injury issues so he's no sure thing but if not for those I'd pick him over Burrow. I think Burrow's a totally fine QB prospect but comparing him to Peyton Manning is absolutely bonkers. (Maybe Eli, that's probably a decent comparison.) The only QBs of the last twenty years who were comparable to Manning were Luck and now Lawrence.

I would be very happy if the Patriots ended up drafting 2 or more of the following (limiting my binkies to skill positions, DB and kickers):

Aiyuk
Pittman
Van Jefferson
Hamler

Harrison Bryant
Okwuegbunam

Malcolm "Go" Perry

Rodrigo

Winfield Jr.

Good question for #1 - I think we should title this the "Predraft Thread" or something. Won't be fun for people to have to go through 20-30+ pages when the draft starts.

I hate to say it but he looked a whole lot better than Harry after one season. Not talking about stats, just the eye test when on the field.

I am not comparing him to Peyton, that’s other people.

his passing stats aren’t really inflated from that game but is rushing stats probably are.

Again though he wasn’t really put in a position to showcase all of his abilities in the 2018 season. Wasn’t really put in a position to succeed by the coaches like he was this past season. I saw a kid in 2018 that got better as the year went on. Then in a bowl game took multiple shots to the head and continued to Do his thing

I have followed this draft class less than any in the past decade. I'm so uninformed. I'm catching up on guys who may be in our range. Whilst doing so, I saw a mock with Jeudy going to Tampa. Talk about setting yourself up for success. Brady did himself a solid.

Also, what's the word on Herbert. Read that he has a great arm and not much else, yet several mocks have us taking him in the first.

Some GM's say that they have lots of surprises. It seems to ME that after these 16, anyone could trade down and get nearly the same value, although some teams might have top values on WR Jefferson or S McKinney or LB Chaisson. Obviously, some of the top 16 teams want to trade down. I believe that there are trade partners who might trade up for any of these 16.

For example, would the patriots trade up for Tua? for Brown? for Kinlaw? I suspect that we will trade down, but these three would be tempting.

QB Burrow, Herbert, Tua
WR Lamb, Jeudy, Ruggs
OT Wirffs, Thoma, Willis, Becton

DL Brown, Kinlaw
EDGE Young
LB Simmons
CB Okudah, Henderson
