Let me start by saying I understand that the following take is absolutely absurd and it's a stupid meaningless position to have.

No I don't want him. I don't want to trade for a QB or get one out of free agency. I want our QBOTF to be a home-grown draft pick. Just feels more like "our" guy. I don't wanna feel like the Broncos and Manning or the Chiefs and Montana. Or the Bucs and Brady. Give me my own, home-grown mediocre QB for 10-15 years like an Eli Manning or something and hope I get a fluke SB or 2 out of him

You’re comparing a WR to a QB lol

Whats your point ? They traded away a WR who is arguably the league's best and on an obvious HoF trajectory before he turned 28 over a pay bump.

I went out of my way to say it is extremely unlikely that anything happens but given how BoB just moved on from a franchise keystone it is suddenly not entirely impossible that the entire situation in Houston deteriorates to the point where Watson might want to move on.

After being exposed to vicious hits and injuries because of their failure to build a OL for years now they just trade away a gamechanger at WR ?

The Texans would be totally moronic to let that happen and most probably will first fire BoB but most would have assumed the same applies to Hopkins.

Given that BoB is their GM.

It probably won't even take a 1st.

The cap situation make this difficult. Let's say that we give Jackson a $40M bonus on a 4 year extension, not a huge amount for a top corner. That would add $7M to the 2020 cap. Even a $20M bonus would add $3M. A bonus of only $20M would require serious guaranteed salary after 2020.

I suppose one way is to have almost no bonus money and lots of guaranteed money. For example, we could give him a $10M bonus (good faith and a cap hit of $2M) and lots of guaranteed money.
Ya I'm going to assume this fake scenario would happen after next season. If not though, I'll defer to guys who know more about the cap and how they would make it fit this year. I would have to think they would find a way to keep that player and if not, start cutting salary.

BB never chases a deal, and never pays a kings ransom for anyone. Pats 50 x more likely to draft another QB in the 3rd round of 2020 NFL Draft, before emptying the cupboards for a talented player like Watson.

Hey, Maybe Andy Reid will trade Mahomes for the #23 plus...... just sayin

Given his age, I think it would be more like Brees to the Saints.

Somehow I don't think the Saints are upset about having a "previously used" QB.

Jameson Winston is Shawn Watson with more INTs and a plate of Alaska King crab legs

In 2019 James threw 30 INTs, yup, but Shawn was sacked 62 times in 2018.

I'd give up anything for Watson. Anything on this roster. If the Texans want picks then give them the Pats first. However, this is all fantasy. The reality of the matter is that Bill has made his choice at QB and its not Watson. For better or worse the reality is that Bill is not bringing in a QB to start that doesn't know his exact system. Despite the fact that BoB at one time was the Pats OC I'm sure there have been changes and BoB has evolved his system in his stops at Penn State and Houston. More likely than not he ends up in a place like Washington or Miami.

Another day, another flat declaration that the 2020 Patriots starting QB is locked in before the draft.

Can’t believe Obrien is still in charge over there. As Patriots fans we know what it’s like to have the media take stories and run with them. But man, seems like he’s lost the locker room in a big way.

I remember Brady and his heated exchange on the sideline and can’t help but come to the opinion he’s an ******* and Tom wasn’t the least bit sad to see him go.

Offer BOB his choice: pick any 4 gunners from the Pats pool of 7

I am not that high on Watson. Takes way too many sacks.

This is gonna be an unpopular answer, but probably not. Guys like Watson have a short shelf life unless they can transition into more conventional passers as they get older. Watson's already been hurt a couple times including a nasty knee injury in his rookie campaign. He might be fantastic for several more years, but when Watson's type of QB falters, it tends to be a total systems collapse

Considering the Pats recent poor drafting I'd take a proven player over a draft pick most of the time.

Their line is a trash fire, it's a Texans tradition dating back to the older Carr brother.

He's shown the ability to be an elite pocket passer since day 1, but I think I catch your drift when you say "Watson's type of QB".

You think he’s spewing some vile racism here?

Apparently the McCourty twins, Reiss, and others didn't get your memo. By multiple accounts, they are committed to seeing what they have in Stidham.

Good point I thought Watson was in the same class as Newton/Luck/Wilson (all 2012 I think).

Still would prefer our own QB. But again I'm being stupid at this point
