Wonder if model is based on their approach to let it go thru their population or is it just the reality of the spread regardless of containment measures.

I suppose if its going to become common then the sooner the population gets immunized the better. This just sounds scary as shyt. US has 5x the pop. of UK, which would put deaths here in the millions.

I wonder if a similar hearing was conducted here and Gov's informed. All of a sudden everything is being closed. CDC coming out limiting gatherings to <50 people.

I remember going to sleep in January looking at the numbers and hoping the deaths wouldn’t be at 50 when I woke up. I haven’t looked at numbers in days. This is so surreal, I’m not even close to an at risk case and all I feel is a profound sense of sadness for the suffering going on in every corner of the globe.

@Kenneth Sims - You will be in my thoughts, stay strong.

You're a conservative and I'm a moderate conservative. I'm not a Trump hater. Anyone who knew me during the political forum days knows that. But the reaction to this virus is a huge fail.

I pray and hope you're right. I hope this turns out to be an overreaction. I really do. But right now I'm really upset at the leadership of this country. I hope I'm wrong.

Wholly agree. I despised Obama with a passion for a multitude of reasons. However, there were times he did the right thing IMO, and I had zero problem stating it when he did.

Trump this time has really pissed me off. He really has. Too slow to close the borders and he seems to think it really isn’t a big deal and that has an effect. Also, the tests are pretty worthless because people are contagious before showing symptoms. By the time you get tested it is too late for the people around you. However they keep talking about it and people think the tests are the salvation. They aren’t. Locking down cities is the only way.

That however creates lethal issues that I see as inevitable. Roving teams of bandits looking for targets. Oh and FYI, if there are grocery/sams/costcos open for business, watch your 6. Watch for suspicious cars in the lots, and then watch for a vehicle trailing you. If you suspect, take some turns on sidestreets. If the car continues to follow, do not go home. I repeat, do not go home. Find a police station or a checkpoint. Grab the plate number if you can. The play is, find someone with some loot (food/water etc) follow them home then attack and steal. Maybe worse.

Stay frosty.

The Dem debate is actually a good one...Biden just said he promised a woman VP. This is what a debate should be - the final two candidates going one-on-one.
Agree on the last part. I don’t know how pandering for votes with the VP pick factors in though.

It’s been a day of very little politics. Refreshing.
Captain is still hanging dong over in the casual chat thread, if you’re trying to catch a peek.

I just put him on ignore, and it was the greatest decision of my life.

Fv^k the guns. How much weed do you have to smoke to off yourself?

Scary part is, here in Houston they had a problem with that same type **** with people and banks about a year ago. Follow them home and rob them. That was before a lockdown. I can only imagine how much worse it will be when people need food or just want to cause trouble.

Oh and that amount of weed would definitely make you a target. Probably a drug kingpin as well lol.

so...went out locally to Stop and Shop, WalMart,Dave's supermarkets etc etc looking for chicken. ANY kind of chicken ...legs, wings , breasts, whole chickens...don't give a shyt. NOTHING. The section where they're kept have tarps pulled over them. Then I go to the S+S closest to my house and they too are out of chicken...BUT...right in the middle of the chicken section there's eight pint containers of...wait for it....CHICKEN LIVERS!. Not a goddyamed feather in sight but, yeah, chicken livers. WHO EATS THIS SHY??? Nobody it seems. Makes me cringe when I think back to when I was a kid and Ma used to make them every other Tuesday night..."eat you chicken livers, Joe! People are starving all around the world!".

My guess is, if and when the food supple collapses, the last commodity left to zombie masses will be ....LIVER.

GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD!
Chicken liver can be good if properly cooked. Has to be breaded and fried. We Southern folk know how to fry stuff.

And lie too.

In the debate he claimed to have never called for cuts to Social Security.

Freezing is not the same thing as cutting.

I'd like to know more about the factors behind this. It's easy to just say the surging veins of nationalism were at play here but I always remember the line "most regulations are written in blood."

There may have been entirely valid reasons for us to come up with our own, 2 hour slower test. I'm not trying to be an enlightened centrist, because I'm not, but I just want my outrage to be about things that are grounded in facts.

Take a look at CureVac and the German Health Ministry right now...Trump tried to bribe them to do a USA exclusive vaccine. There are a few words for that and none of them are nice.

I’m 57 years old and over the last 4 months I’ve been having tests on a growth in one of my lungs. In February, a PET scan diagnosed it as cancerous. On March 5th, they went down my throat with a scope and collected secretions around the area but could not get a sample from the growth itself because they were afraid the lung would collapse.

The pathology test on the secretions says the growth is not cancerous which was also the opinion of the pulmonary specialist who did the scope test. That’s naturally a great relief. Up next is a needle biopsy to get a sample of the growth to confirm it’s not cancerous and do other tests to see what it might be. The needle test has an even higher risk of collapsing my lung than the bronchoscopy which it why the scope was done first. But, it must be done because the PET scan wouldn’t have shown it as positive if it wasn’t cancerous, an infection of some type or an autoimmune problem. By the way, aside from an irregular cough, I have no symptoms of anything and feel generally okay.

All of this is unnerving enough as it is. But, then you throw in that I’m living and working in the midst of a respiratory virus pandemic, and it is even more so. I’m not sure my chances are good for fighting it off if I should contract it. I can’t just tell my employer that I’m just going to stay home and protect myself. I need the job to pay my bills and, as important, I need the health insurance I have from my job to treat whatever it is that I have. These are just scary days.

Wow Ken, as if you haven't been through enough. You are proving to be resilient, that's clear. Good thoughts headed your way. Hang in and good luck with the needle.

Was at a dinner tonight in the Midwest (Illinois). At the table was a military person who seemed very knowledgable and down to earth. He thought we might have a 14 day lock-down beginning tomorrow. If that is true, it will probably happen everywhere. He talked roadblocks and needing an ID to get to work (doctor, nurses, etc). Just passing this along. I did go to the grocery store tonight.

A few points:
1. Tests would identify infected individuals before they show symptoms.
2. Common cold, flu, coronavirus, et al, show similar symptoms and a test would isolate coronavirus
3. Massive testing early on would have identified and contained infection sources before the uncontrolled spread we now have.

Are you saying the Feds are going to trump the state rights and call some type of Marshall law?

I don't believe it. I believe individual states will probably impose local lockdowns, unless you're specifically talking about Illinois.

Sautéed in butter with onions. Yum!

It's natural to blame the leadership during a crisis, but I do think that the Administration's coordination could have been a lot better. They should just put Dr. Fauci in charge and do what he says.
Seriously, i am going to write in Fauci for president.

It will be in conjunction with the states. No state will say no. None. Brave new world it shall be.

I'm not saying anything, just passing along a person's thoughts.
