I think you’re ok as long as insults are not flying.
Agree and Tommy and I are cool but the thread is about the virus and I don't want it to turn into a political/Biden/gun rights one

He met the guy at his level a la Harry Truman, Ronald Reagan and others. Might be a tad coarse but not necessarily "unpresidential."
Trump has said crap like that for years and it was called “unpresidential.” I personally don’t mind Biden or his style at all, but FFS at least try to be consistent.

If you give me their contact info, I’ll be happy to forward them the study.

I’m not making this up, I’m just repeating what the Center for Communicable Diseases said.

There’s truth to what the study said. If you look at the numbers, there are fewer cases in the southern hemisphere and it’s the tail end of summer there. The bad news for everyone below the equator is that winter is right around the bend.

Consistency over party? That’s crazy talk.

Didn't we have a few of these, the latest in 2009?

I heard a man on radio this morning who claimed that we'd be better off if our government gave us positive news to calm the fears of the people. The only problem is there are probably less than a handful of people in media who would report anything positive. It doesn't fit their agenda. They'd rather give us the Chinese propaganda instead.

Speaking of China, one of our sons is married to a Chinese lady (thank God they moved here 6 months ago) and her parents and brother have been on lock-down in Beijing. But there's no way on God's green earth that folks in this country would ever allow that to happen here. They'd be protesting in the streets.

Swine flu was global and very contagious however the case fatality rate was comparatively low. The problem with Covid19 is how many cases require intensive care after the lungs become overwhelmed by pneumonia.

This is very manageable if the infection is spread out over time and those who do get infected can get the intensive care. If this spikes at once, the hospitals will be overwhelmed because you can only use so many machines at one time and when those machines are all being utilized, those who cannot get ventilator care have a very large increase in case fatality. If you can spread the infections out overtime by effectively quarantining the population, more people can get complete treatment on the same number of machines available.

Care for Critically Ill Patients With COVID-19

No quarantine = surge = many patients with inadequate care, many more fatalities

Anyone rioting over a quarantine is missing the forest from the trees.

Here is a quick video on why these measures are necessary. This doctor is describing actual cases from Wuhan. It gives a good overview on how much is actually required in the most severe cases. And with 5% of cases requiring such levels of care, we cannot to afford to be reactive or it will cost people their lives.

FWIW, I found the study I had read. They expect “modest declines” but not significant enough to “make a big dent.”

The short answer is that while we may expect modest declines in the contagiousness of SARS-CoV-2 in warmer, wetter weather and perhaps with the closing of schools in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, it is not reasonable to expect these declines alone to slow transmission enough to make a big dent.

Seasonality of SARS-CoV-2: Will COVID-19 go away on its own in warmer weather?

Exactly. The US has approximately 1 million hospital beds of which, 700,000 are typically filled at any given time.

A spike in covid patients, many of whom will require hospitalization, will absolutely overwhelm available resources. And this doesn’t include the limited number of ICU beds and vents needed for the sickest patients. Flattened growth is huge.

I miss last October, when the biggest worry was whatever Antonio Brown was up to.

So you didn’t read it? The word unknown shows up 0 times and the phrase not known shows up once regarding virus load on an inanimate surface.

If you reference Table 1, you will see that at room temperature many strains persist for days, even at 40*C some strains persist for up to 96 hours.

Hope is not a plan. Neither is avoiding reality due to stressfulness of a situation. I am not advocating anyone panic, however let’s work with a full set of facts to get the best information possible while evaluating how to handle this event.

Panic is not a solution. Be diligent to wash your hands constantly, be mindful not to touch your face, etc. Plan to deal with the worst case scenario and work your hardest to avoid that being a reality.
You and and your scientific facts have no place in other people's bubbles and fantasies mister!

Has Antonio Brown expressed an opinion on coronavirus?:p
I heard he sexually assaulted the Coronavirus and threatened its family afterward.

WEEI announced another NBA Jazz player has it. Apparently Gobert thought it was real funny to touch other players’ stuff in the locker room the way he touched all those microphones. He’s a funny guy!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go wash my hands.

The cool thing about this, though, is at least the Lakers won’t win the championship this year. Suck a fat one, LeBron.

Based on past experiences, I figure AB will lash out at the virus in inflammatory social media posts. A few days later, he will apologize to the virus on these same platforms.

Let’s see if he stays true to form.

I’m dying of Coronavirus...please, you must tell my kids these important things about their father. Actually, never mind. Using my last ounce of energy...on a Facebook post about Donald Trump. The world must know my thoughts on how he handled the outbreak and my general thoughts on his presidency...
