I think what us lay people are missing is that the epidemiologists are concerned about how fast this thing spreads. The best way to combat that is to minimize human interactions.

It's the crisis I've been training for my entire life.

yeah lets listen to this guy instead...

Plus his combative exchange with the auto worker over gun rights was about as un-presidential as you can get

I'm not Trump fan but Uncle Joe was out of line.

Philly will get their 2 best players back from injury when the NBA playoffs resume in June instead of April. They will play the Celtics of course in the first round. Another shameful way Boston sports gets screwed by the schedule makers.

This is my time!

He met the guy at his level a la Harry Truman, Ronald Reagan and others. Might be a tad coarse but not necessarily "unpresidential."

I don't think Truman or Ronnie threatened to slap a voter.

Seems the real takeaways from this thread are the world is ending, and orange man bad
Not sure if bad is the correct descriptor here but inept in preparing for and current handling of the situation is pretty fitting.

And it's really the simple things that would help like not dismantling the pandemic preparedness program in the US or not downplaying the situation in tweets (just as bad as the over the top panic from others) or not having sufficient number of test kits available or not cutting the CDC's global pandemic budget by 80% in 2018 or not having confusing guidance coming out of the CDC to state and local governments on how to and when to test or not placing conditions on how health care workers can access n95 masks when they suspect they may be dealing with a cover patient or so many other missteps.

To say this situation is/was being handled even adequately is as bad as saying Syria's red line or the Ebola trade ban or Katrina or the Iranian hostages were handled well by past administrations. Sometimes party needs to be pushed aside and crappy work called out. Mismanagement is mismanagement, it doesn't care about affiliation.

You're right. I wasn't aware of the face-slap part, just the "full of sh*t" quote. A heated moment but he did walk away. I can see how it's hard in that position to keep your cool 100 percent of the time.

Who cares about what a skin doctor thinks.
As an avowed racist and xenophobe, it depends on the color of his or her skin.

Social distancing isn’t hysteria, these are measures simply trying to prolong the transmission of the virus so the capacity of the healthcare system isn’t overwhelmed in a short period of time.

If you have to seriously hospitalize 10 million people, if you can quarantine effectively to spread that out over 6, 9 or 12 months, you are able to use the current capacity to its full extent for many treatment cycles. Put simply:

Here is a good rough over view with an infectious disease specialist.

Just to be awfully clear, this isn’t going away in a week, or a month. We are just seeing the tip of the tip of the iceberg, maybe a small fraction of a percent so far. Don’t be low on information, this is an event that we haven’t seen anything similar to in our lifetimes.

Didn't we have a few of these, the latest in 2009?

I heard a man on radio this morning who claimed that we'd be better off if our government gave us positive news to calm the fears of the people. The only problem is there are probably less than a handful of people in media who would report anything positive. It doesn't fit their agenda. They'd rather give us the Chinese propaganda instead.

Speaking of China, one of our sons is married to a Chinese lady (thank God they moved here 6 months ago) and her parents and brother have been on lock-down in Beijing. But there's no way on God's green earth that folks in this country would ever allow that to happen here. They'd be protesting in the streets.

Yea I was ok with the full of s**t part and the other thing he said. I forget. I'm ok w/ politicians being feisty if someone is misrepresenting their views.

Except Uncle Joe's position was not being misrepresented at all...

They’ve criticized everything the guy has done for 4 years now. Why should this be any different? So it’s tough for intelligent people to take a single thing the TDS crowd says seriously. He could personally cure the virus tomorrow and they’d say “why didn’t he do it sooner?!?”
The only thing he’s cured or could cure is male pattern baldness.
