If Brissett were to be released, would you have interest in bringing him back?

Could be, although if he really loved the kid i think he’s have kept him. Wonder if Jacoby has done anything since to change his mind or if he doesn’t think he can run our offense.

Can’t deny that he had have some impressive moments this season. Locker room loves him and he is calm under pressure and rarely turns the ball over. That win in KC reminded me so much of Brady.

Here you go, only $200 on Amazon ...

Brissett actually looked good in this offense in his 2nd year right before he got traded. So playing Devil’s advocate, it wouldn’t be a bad move if the money was reasonable. Might be a cheap option bridge QB until Stidham or any other draftee is ready.

He got shutout at home in his second start. This board vastly overrates this guy. He’s a
competent backup QB or maybe a journeyman stopgap guy at absolute best. He takes forever to make a decision and his typical play is scrambling around for six seconds then dumping it off for a short gain.

Rather see what Stidham has ... Brissett is an average at best QB.

If average means around #16 among starters, there’s no way he’s average. If it means he’s decent enough to be a starter in an emergency, then sure, he’s average. I’ve seen both definitions used to describe an “average” QB.

There's about a dozen guys every year who could be the median starter in the league. I'm not sure Brissett is one of those guys but he was playing pretty well this year before he got hurt.

Man now I really want him to comeback just to upset you
I wouldn't be upset at all, I would laugh. But chances are he won't be back so you better snag that bargain-priced autographed jersey while you can. You'll be all the envy of the Jacoby Rumpswab Fanboy Brigade here at Patsfans. ;)

No. I'll take Stidham plus rookie. I guess as camp competition sure but I think if you're looking at Brissett you might as well take a chance with a rookie

He was hurt, torn ligament in the thumb of his throwing hand. No way he would have been on the field if we had a single other quarterback to run out there.

Except that's not true at all. Brissett lives by the short pass because the short pass is what he had to work with. TY Hilton is the only guy I'd trust to take a deep throw on that entire roster, and he was hurt half the time.

Frankly, Brissett gets an incomplete grade as a passer in my book.

For one thing, Brissett's season as a whole was tale of two halfs, the first half in which he was a leader in TD/pick rate and his team was on a 10 win pace, including a marquee win against the Chiefs, and his second half, when he was wearing a knee brace after Von Miller throw his OL into him, which can happen to literally anyone.

For another thing, Brissett never had a consistent receiver unit from one game to the next, and that's really hard to get on the same page with your guys when you don't have continuity in the room.

Besides that, Brissett really wasn't called on to carry the offense. Frank Reich said in week 1 that this would be a running team first and foremost. And the Colts run attack was easily top 5, with Brissett mostly set up to take care of the ball and manage the game.

The only times Brissett was called on to air it out was when the run attack wasn't working, and he was usually successful at making something happen. Again, despite the spit-and-bailing-wire WR unit.

I honestly think that Brissett was overrated at the half, but the pendulum's swung a little too far the other way. He has ability, I wouldn't call him elite, but if Matt Cassel can be an NFL starter there's nothing stopping Brissett if things fell right.

You might consider that your opinion is laughable on virtually every subject. His team “was on a 10 win pace”? That tells me the Colts are talented. Then again, almost everyone already knows that they’re extremely talented and held back by a subpar QB.

Andrew Luck threw for 39 TDs and almost 4,600 yards in this offense that you’re crying about not having anyone besides Hilton who can get open downfield.

Did you even watch that game against the Chiefs? You fail to mention the defense held KC to 13 points and the offense ran the ball all game. If that’s a “marquee win” it just reinforces the point that he needs unsustainably strong help to win.

After the embarrassing thread asking everyone to rate and evaluate Stidham, I think you should lay low on QB talk. Who comes up with a thread like this?

That's a bit harsh and unfair imo. JB was off to a very good season prior to his knee injury.

He was on pace for a 3600 yards, 32 TDs and 7 Int's prior to his injury. He looked good.

I didn't watch enough of him to throw all my cards on the table for him but he didn't look like a shlub in the games I did watch.

So I don't think Simpleton giving him an incomplete is that far off the mark.

Opinion respected, Tony.

I’ll point out that Brissett also had the 2017 season as the Colts starter, and getting two seasons to prove yourself is much more than a lot of borderline starters get. He had a decent stretch to start the season in 2019, though I thought there was a lot more sizzle than steak, as he led what I think is a very strong supporting cast and consistently hovered among the worst QBs in the league in yards/attempt. His TD:INT ratio isn’t irrelevant but also doesn’t show the whole story. He’s a guy who struggles to make the big throws and big plays.

I don’t think it’s likely he comes back based on Ballard’s incredibly lukewarm, public comments below. Ballard understands he isn’t winning anything without a star QB, and three seasons is an eternity to invest in a QB who isn’t an obvious champion caliber player. Colts have a ton of cap space. I don’t know if they ever really saw Brissett as the guy at all and this was a last minute Andrew Luck replacement. I suspect the Colts heavy run schemes and short passing is more of a capitulation to Brissett’s weaknesses than the team’s philosophy. I never heard about the run dominant game plans and short, low-impact dump-offs while Luck was taking snaps there. Just my opinion, he is done as a starter.

Ballard: 'Jury's still out' on Jacoby Brissett as Colts' QB

Rodney said he had been the best QB in the AFC so far early in the season (which was obviously getting carried away, but JB was playing really well).

He has work to do but is only going into his 5th season. If he lands on the right team, somebody may be thrilled to get him.

Curious to see how much Bill really likes Stidham, he may just be the guy. Reiss seems to think it's Stidham and he's usually giving informed opinions.

When did Reiss say BB preferred Stidham?
I agree with Cassel that BB will want a veteran to go along with Stidham if it is Stidham as the guy.
That’s all if Brady isn’t the guy.

I didn't see it personally but a friend told me Reiss seemed to indicated it'll be Stidham and Kessler if Tom doesn't return.

Wouldn't Belichick need to take out malpractice insurance if he went with Stidham and Kessler, with no veteran camp competition?

It will definitely be interesting to see where he lands this off-season.

Both you and Primetime have similar views of him so I definitely wonder if I've overrated him which is possible.

So here's my prediction. He'll end as a starter this upcoming season.

My novice guesses:

Colts, Cowboys, Titans or Chargers.

Cowboys -. There's not much dropoff between Brissett and Prescott. But getting Brissett saves them cap space to use ..... Etc etc...

Titans - I don't understand the rating of Tannehill over Brissett. Tannehill is a one trick RPO pony. Imo. Deer in the headlights type of guy. Part of his travel pack includes a box of Depends.

Colts - who are they going to replace him with? Dolton? Does cutting Brissett leave a dead money hit on their cap? Maybe Bridgewater. We'll see.

Chargers - That or Bridgewater.

My opinion usually isn't that far off from yours or Prime's so it'll be fun to see how this one works out.

No, Kessler and Stidham both are veterans.

If a team loses the musical chairs game with QBs, then sure, he may end up starting in one of these cities. I’m guessing he’d be a presumed “bridge QB” with the hope he can improve. Maybe a team that drafts a round 1 QB will sign him. Or he could possibly return to the Colts...I just think their priority will be to upgrade at QB and he’ll be the Plan B.

He isn’t a terrible QB. It’s just that being somewhere in the 20-30 best NFL QBs is no longer a good thing due to the value of the position. You have like 10-15 that are good enough that teams will commit long term to them.

Tannehill is still a question mark. I saw that Derrick Henry said Tannehill is the man there and should be re-signed due to his play in 2019, and that’s a ridiculous statement. The team isn’t going to score TDs on 95% percent of their red zone possessions or ride a historically great run game (via Henry) again. He may have contributed to their success, but to think 2019 will repeat itself is nuts. Huge outlier success there. If they stand pat and field the same general team, the Titans are an easy pick for the biggest face plant of 2020.
