@Kontra and others, I love you and always thought you were full of BS about posts being deleted...

Earlier today Icy shut down a Saints/Church thread. Then a discussion of it started in the existing Saints thread when RoboTurner came in to annoy everyone as usual with Saints paranoia and was defending the Saints. Es

@Patjew had a long, well-thought out post about it. Of course, I did notice another regular poster who I greatly respect took issue with some of the wording. That’s the problem with really divisive issues like politics and religion, in my opinion and why I personally don’t mind when they get erased. But I can understand why PatJew is upset...just hope he realizes it was about the topic itself and not a personal seal of disapproval to him.

Icy (I think) is the one moderator that is quick to shut down threads and/or move them to another forum. For example, I started a draft thread on the main board once the season was over so everyone (and not just the forum draft experts) could discuss the upcoming draft. Within a few hours it got moved to the draft forum. Now we have a bunch of draft threads on the main board. The mods do a great job but we just need some consistency. Each moderator should have a specific role - one for GDTs, another for moving irrelevant threads, another for cleaning up the discussions, etc.

It’s hard to moderate a forum of this size. You want to avoid censoring but also need to realize some topics are going to lead to a massive amount of fighting between posters and some nastiness. I think the mods do a good job in finding a balance. There are always pros and cons. But when you start letting threads about pedophilia onto the main page, just because an NFL team is connected to it in some way, it in is bound to go off the rails soon enough.

Should they also have on-call rotations and be required to submit weekly reports to their supervisor?

I take the Philip Rivers approach to posting. I’ve got so many I wouldn’t even know if one of mine was deleted and I’d probably have 8 or 9 more on the way.

Not sure why posts are being deleted, but it shouldn't happen unless a rule is violated. Would also be nice if you got a message notifying you that a message was deleted and why, but I'm not sure the software can do that. A mod, however, CAN and should, imho.

Also, @Patjew and @LJRomanoff , I've found that when you message @Ian directly with an issue, he is quick to address it.

Damn I missed the drama! I love when there’s drama on this board, it makes me feel better about myself.

Wait, what?

The Saints are involved in a scandal where they allegedly helped the Catholic Church in New Orleans by lending them some advice on how to handle the PR for a priest/ child molestation scandal. That’s what a couple of these threads were broaching today before getting locked down.

I wanted to hit the thank you button for the explanation but eh I mean, given the content of your explanation....

Understood. Emoticons can send mixed signals, and that’s not one you want roll the dice on

Ashley attacking posters and over-moderating a game day thread?

Well I just can’t believe that
I’ve made some ultra-****e GDT posts and never had them deleted by Ashley, Ross or other mods.

No post should be deleted. If there’s a problem, why not be notified about what you posted?

I am not sure about how I should react to this thread. Are we joking or are people serious?

I was disappointed that all pro-Saints sentiment got locked due to one over the top post. That seemed like a mistake. I'm literally two days removed from a wonderful trip to NOLA and was reminded how that city is more about the Saints than any city in the US is about its football team.

@Patjew please reconsider. You are one of the stabilizing voices of sanity. I'd like to know more about what happened that was so upsetting. Heck, one moment I'm imagining meeting you at the Patsfans convention, the next minute you've left.

A lot of the deleted posts are entire discussions though. You can just look at the topic and figure it out quite easily. You may be the most eloquent, non-offensive poster just trying to keep the peace, but if the topic is about religion, politics, etc. then the mod is just drawing lines about what topics are discussed on a Patriots football forum, and often times it spiraled out of control. I just wouldn’t take it personally.

@Patjew Man, buddy...I respect your opinion and your actions. I respect you as a person more - in so far as you present yourself in your posts here, at least.

I get the sense of outrage but I hope you reconsider, because in the grand scheme of things a thread being deleted isn't worth losing the friends you've made here.

To be fair mods quietly delete a lot of my posts and I tend to just move on and not get angry. I think it's because I got used to abusive mods at other forums that I just am like 'oh ok whatever' and happily move on because here the mods aren't using their status to berate me publicly or privately or something. I'm ok with it.

Not to sound demeaning to your feelings, but it's not like we're nailing a parchment to the door of Wittenburg castle when we post here so despite the feeling of personal injury I used to have I think it's no great loss when something is deleted, nor do I think it is oppression.

Well done.

I don't know what was so significant to him, but I'd like to find out. Right now I'm left to project that it is something to do with being openly Jewish and the social history of being silenced and disappeared. But that's all I've got to work with.

I got accused of being a troll by a mod in a game day thread just because they didnt like what I said in regards to how I viewed something on field.....

Even though I had seniority on that mod by like 8 years.

Theres no question this place has changed
