In the NFL, you win titles one of three ways:

1. Historically elite QB
2. Historically elite defense
3. Hot run

And hot runs are not sustainable.

I understand how you win in the NFL. Just saying it's not realistic to go after outliers like Brady & Manning. You get lucky getting guys like that.

You go after the QB with the best chance to be special. You don't go after the best QB of a mediocre/good batch. So, if you think Sam Darnold is going to be elite, you target him. If you don't, you pass on him. In the case at hand, you target Lawrence over this year's QBs.

You might get it wrong but, if you're in for the penny, you might as well go in for the pound.

Shea Patterson is the Michigan guy. He, uh, occasionally flashes NFL talent? Sometimes he looks like Manziel without a drinking problem extending plays and firing perfect passes on the run, though mostly he looks bad.

Are there any QBs out there named Brendon, Brandon, Branden, or Brandin? We are still getting by with a dangerously shallow bench at the Br(a/e)nd(i/o/e)n position.
