It is one of the more lazy comparisons out there. Apart from playing on WC weekend there really is not much those teams have in common.

Both were offensively flawed teams that had trouble stopping the run. Both teams also lacked "it" and I think we saw this team lacking the focus it needs to win in the playoffs, just like the 2009 team. We will see, but I don't expect the Patriots to win on Saturday, just like I didn't expect them to beat the Ravens in 2009.

We will lose this game.

Except the Patriots D doesn't have "problems stopping the run". Check their stats against the rest of the league and you will see they are one of the better teams.

And the fact you call something missing "it" just goes to show that you can't objectively point it out but just wanna go with a narrative. There is absolutely zero connection between those teams.

The issue with this years team is just a razor thin margin of error on offense where they have to execute on almost every third down and can't have any negative plays.

The "it" is the ability to focus in big games with consistency. This team has failed in that endeavor. The patriots have had trouble stopping the run consistently this year. It may not be as bad as in 2009, but the flaw is there.

Patriots don’t have problems stopping the run. They were #6 in the league in fewest rush yards allowed. The only game where they were gashed badly from wire to wire is the Ravens game.

The 2019 Patriots would curb stomp the 09 team.

This team feels more like 2005 to me.

Just so you all know, late season loss to Miami always resulted in a superbowl win, so we have reasons to be hopeful.

I really don’t understand the narrative that the pats can’t stop the run

Since the bye they've been fine.

Mixon and Elliot ran on them a bit but they are good.

I do agree with what BB just said. Henry will be the best they will see all year.

Not that it actually affects anything but this isn't true. 2013 and 2017

Damn I forgot about those. The season looks doom.

Decided to go to the game. If this is Brady's last game as a Patriot, I'm going to be there. Let's get the Brady! Brady! Brady! chants going all game!

Tannehill is playing fantastic football right now, and he's hotter than Fitzpatrick was coming into the game yesterday. The Patriots failed miserably against Fitzpatrick, who had a mediocre at best running game. Tannehill brings one of the best rushing attacks in the league to Foxboro.
It's going to take turnovers for the Patriots to win this game. Perhaps it's time for Bill's vaunted special teams to do something - haven't done diddly poo in ages. Block a punt, cause a fumble, return a punt for a td, return a kick for a td....
Tennessee defense playing pretty well, averaging 22.3 ppg since their bye week. But this Tennessee team is not that good. If the Patriots lose to this team, it's definitely time for a reboot. Patriots are at home vs a team that only made the playoffs because their opponent didn't play their starters. AJ McCarron led touchdown drives of 15 plays 75 yards to start the game and of 16 plays 80 yards throwing to backups in a game that Tennessee HAD to win (this made it 21-14, so not garbage time). Yet a bum quarterback was able to mount TWO sustained touchdown drives vs a team playing for IT ALL.
The Patriots quarterback playing AT HOME with ALL his weapons - including the first rd pick receiver who was "the answer" according to folks on here PLUS the first rd pick LT who was also "the answer" to the Pats offensive issues. There's no reason the Patriots quarterback should not be able to generate 2x the touchdown drives of AJ MCCARRON

Christmas came late for you. I bet you were hoping we lose to the bills last week too. Its a win win for you if pats lose or win this week. You get to rail on the team.
Tenn maybe playing well..but we have seen how this translates week to week. Buffalo was playing even better when they came in and with a much better defense statistically. You seem to not mention the drives the PATRIOTS QB put together in that week but happily cite AJ McCarron.
This team is capable of playing better. Unfortunately they arent consistent enough and this happens to teams in some seasons. Be grateful we have seen very less of it in the BB/Brady era. We could be the Rams , sitting at home after a SB run.

Kyle Van Noy summed up this whole team right now back in November: We’re 8-1. So that deserves a smile, right?

Adalius Thomas 2.0 right there. Hated that quote then, don't like it now. Pictures and smiles with AFC East gear, forcing finesse offense, overhyped defense, campaigning for personal awards over the team goals. This is 2009 all over again, and this team is soft.

Boogeymen. FOH with that crap.

The hard part to judge is where mentally this team is today. Maybe they were assuming a week off next week and now suddenly realize they have to play and vs a team they didnt play this yr. How much this effects them is the worrying factor. We know slater and co are saying the right things but if they are shell shocked they have no time off or were counting on it to do some things then this might be a long game.
The other factor to not like about this matchup is dean pees. He has given brady fits and with this WR crew and make shift oline and half a edelman this will be a tough game for the passing game I suspect . If we had lost the bye last week , it would be been better as they couldve prepared a bit better. Right now in true sense this is a wild card game.
