Antonio Brown Update

This is smart imo. You try and get him to agree to a very specific contract, 2 years. I doubt AB would sign it.
Even if he doesn't, you can still build good will towards next season and get the clock started on his suspension now.

Receiver who just broke the all time single season catch record, a top 10 tight end, and top 5 running back, and a top 5 offensive line not enough for the GOAT Brees. The dome gnome needs more help to get a 2nd ring

Unless he radically changes his behavior he'll never be worth it because he's too unreliable to be counted on. Just can't count on him with the way he's behaved over the past 12-16 months.

That's right. He won't play this year and playoffs aren't paid so you sign him knowing he probably will go on exempt list and lost first 6 games next year. Get him cheap on next year. I wonder if AB would sign for 2 years though, if he does its a no brainer for Saints as long as the contract is very specific.

Didn't Gordon get last season's playoffs counted towards his suspension?

Suspension yes, but not pay. So if they give him a contract today its paid for this week only and then nothing after that if he goes on exempt list. So its very low risk knowing they wont get him this year. You essentially pay him 1 week this year.

Not sure if it "counted" as his suspension was indefinite in term.

Well I say 'low risk' in terms of money. Nothing is low risk with AB otherwise lol.

Win win for the Saints right now. Sign him for a few game rental hope he gets caught up to speed coming out of the first round bye and pair him with Thomas and watch him go. Maybe he helps you get him a ring and then you let him walk and go he crazy elsewhere. Worse case scenario the league doesn’t let him play and you’re right back where you started.

The whole thing falls apart if players act out like Brown did without repercussion. Owens was a pain in the butt, I’m sure not a favorite of the owners, but never pulled a stunt like AB did in Oakland/LA/LV
If they’re signing him for just the rest of the season, this will likely be a very short-term deal with a long-term deal being contingent upon a variety of factors. In other words, they’re signing him for Week 17 and however far they go into the playoffs. Brown has also effectively served a suspension. He’s been out since Week 2. Owens insinuated that his quarterback was a homosexual in San Fran, fractured the offense in Philly in 2005, and had a number of weird on and off the field instances. He still got chance after chance, though, because in the end, talent contributes to wins and wins contribute to revenue increases. The NFL as a business is not going to want Brown off the field for much longer as long as he can produce.

If he helps the Saints win a SB this place will go nuclear.

If Brees actually gets Brown I’m going to be sick
Did Brees sleep with your wife or mother or sister or something? You have quite the unhealthy insecure obsession.

This is a good point, but I don't think this is about this year. I think they are trying to get him on a saints friendly contract for this and next. As toxic as he is, he just needs to quiet down for 1 month or more and teams will be lined up to sign him next year, regardless of suspension. It would also be a nice FU to the NFL to force them to conclude this sham investigation if they signed him this year. I hope they sign him just to see what happens, but I think we'll all be pissed if by some miracle he is allowed to play this year.

That's an oxymoron.

Only if you have absolutely no clue what an oxymoron is.

Again, he's not playing this year. They'll work him out now, sign him if they can agree on $$$, and he will be on their roster next year. They put a clause in the contract that if he faces charges, they walk away from the contract - same way Kraft kicked him out the door the moment he got a whiff of him possibly facing charges. The contract includes clauses to protect teams in such scenarios. He if gets suspended, it's more than likely for no more than 4 games or so (for misconduct) - assuming he not facing charges. And in that case, you can expect to see him in the Saints line up starting week 5 next year.

And why would they be doing this now when they can just as easily be doing it in the offseason? It’s not like other teams are falling all over themselves to get to Brown. The ONLY reason they would sign him now, with seeding still not wrapped up for them and the playoffs a week away, is if they see themselves being able to use him this season.

There’s a big difference between what AB and what TO did. For all of TOs craziness he didn’t go so crazy as to basically force the team to cut him. AB went right over that line in Oakland. That, even moreso than the stuff with women, is what AB is getting punished for, IMHO.

If players feel they can shoot themselves out of town for greener pastures with no consequences that has far larger, negative consequences for the NFL than a few extra empty seats or TV eyeballs because AB’s not playing ever will.

You serious, Clark?

AB has already served those consequences. His time off was only not a suspension in official title. Otherwise, he’s been effectively suspended since Week 2. That we are arguing whether there will be interest or not is somewhat absurd because there already is interest since a team is working him out.

If the Pats don't make the Super Bowl I REALLY hope Antonio Brown wins Super Bowl MVP for new Orleans en route to a Saints SB win....and I hope Krafty Bob truly feels the wrath of the fans who fork over their hard earned money to watch his Football team every week...that is, if Krafty Bob takes a break from his Asian Happy Endings
Short of a Pats win, THIS scenario would be "unequivocally the sweetest"
