That’s the problem. If it’s no big deal for 31 teams, then it’s no big deal for any team. You can’t talk about the integrity of the game and importance of rules and then ignore or minimize things just because the Chargers, Texans, or Panthers were involved. It’s not just the league, but the media that does this as well.
Maybe 6 or 7 years ago, a story came out that the Saints GM had set up a system to listen in on the coach’s booth to sideline communications for visiting teams. The next day, Bill Polian went on ESPN radio and said, even if this was true, it wouldn’t be helpful. Even though that comment defies common sense, the hosts went along with him and the narrative was set: This wasn’t a big deal. Even though this took place after the bounty scandal, the Saints were teflon, like every non-Patriots team.
People in this thread keep saying that the Patriots need to follow the rules to the letter and not take any chances. Given the way they are treated, those comments are right. But what about the rest of the league? How closely are they following the rules given that they know that the league and media will look the other way or downplay it?
