Curran (again) - Are these Tom Brady's final days with the Patriots?

It doesn't matter if there are any great QBs in FA or not. I don't see any way they will go into the next season without a veteran at QB. Whether that is Brady, Tannehill, Mariota, Bridgewater, Winston or someone else entirely.

Do I like the prospect of someone else ? No.

But as with all other positions you can't expose yourself to the FA whims of a player and risk ending up with empty hands. I am sure there will be more patience and goodwill with Brady than with most other FAs but at some point there will be a "take it or leave it" deadline.
The choice is obvious

It never ends well does it?. The question here is what type of money is tom looking for. I always thought that these guys where basically in a year to year thing. Frankly i feel brady deserved better this year and it might end with a thud. I hope not but time is running out on this offense. Just put it together. McDaniels be creative.

It can't end well when the goals of the two main actors might be clashing. BB has an entire team to build and manage and if Brady dismisses the offer that the Pats will send his way before FA starts and decides to enter FA then there will be a deadline to it all.

Keep in mind that we are talking about approximately 25M of cap space (+/-). At some point BB will go to plan B and spend parts of that money on some of the defensive players who have expiring contracts.

It is what it is.

Gronk left because of money. He was due a bunch of money that he was never going to get at his age with his injury history. It was clear last season that Gronk got slow, but he was still a tough matchup out there. In retrospect some sort of deal should have been worked out. 500 yards and 5 TDs via the TE position would look good about now.

The issue was much more his health. By all reports he was in a ton of pain during SB53. I don't know that more money would have mattered.

Eli for 1 year so that Stidham can develop but certainly not longer than that...
Are you Eli’s agent? Because there’s no other possible sane reason.

If you want a stop gap QB for a year, there aren't that many choices.

??

The point was that the Broncos didn't win in spite of Manning. He was still a very good QB.

Sure.... and they got absolutely smoked by the Seahawks that year in the Superbowl.

2 years later they finally won a Superbowl, but Manning had nothing to do with it. Their defense was so legit, they would have won the Superbowl with me at QB... and I can barely throw a proper spiral (which kind of puts me on the same level at that houseface).

One thing worth noting: both sides had to agree to this odd deal (years that void automatically?).

I remember reading somewhere that both sides agreed to this because a new CBA might change the way QB salaries are handled in a way beneficial to both sides. I'm not saying that's definitely what's going on, just that it might be.

That would make me incredibly sad. I really do hope it doesn’t happen. Seeing him in another jersey would annoy the hell out of me. I’m honestly ok with us overpaying to keep him. That won’t be BB’s line of thought, but it would be worth it to me. It would really leave a sour taste if my last memories of Brady weren’t of him as the GOAT who was always fully bought into the pats system and loved playing here as much as we love having him here.

If he doesn’t want to be here next year, I pray he retires.

Has this board gone crazy? Eli is cooked. He couldnt last more than a few games before Jones was handed the reigns. What makes anyone think he can come in and keep stidham on the sidelines another year?

I think this is all BS. If Brady is so unhappy in the offense that he has played in for 20 years, he's going to go somewhere else and learn a new offense with a whole new group of guys? Isn't that even worse than what he is dealing with right now? I'm so tired of it. Just play for cripes sake, try to right the ship and try to go far in the playoffs.

Does anyone truly believe that robert kraft will want to be known as the owner to dump the GOAT after 20 years? I truly doubt it...there would be mayhem and bad publicity in new england

In the end they will pay brady no matter what bill wants to do.

Unless there's a tremendous change in approach, Brady's outta here
Sorry to be obtuse, but what was Curran referring to regarding “change in approach”?

- Patriots being willing to give a long term deal versus their unwillingness now?
- Patriots approach to building the offense around him (fewer rookie and retread skill players)?
- Both?
- Something else?

Why do we think it fair to demand that Brady keep eating **** sandwiches, rather than to demand that the team do a better job of both supporting him and paying him?

Well Eli has to play this week so you can watch that plan in action.

Oh right, I forgot Bill and Josh are coaching the Giants this weekend . If they can salvage a decent year out of Cassel, they can get something out of Eli, even at age 39.
