Curran (again) - Are these Tom Brady's final days with the Patriots?

He deserves better than this team of JAGs on offense.

Not having quality weapons at his age is no doubt taking the fun out of it for him. And the Pat needs to start over after every season. Those facts could expedite that fateful decision.

I'm slightly tired of the narrative that Bill has hung Tom out to dry with his offensive weapons. In 2018, he drafted a 1st round RB, in part to hopefully take the pressure off Brady. He had given him a top quality passing back too. He had Gronk (who by the way at the beginning of last year was still considered an all world TE), a future hall of fame in Tom Curran's eyes in Julian Edelman, plus some decent complementary pieces...Hogan, Dorsett, Allen, Gordon etc.

This year has been tough but it's not as if Bill hasn't tried. Gronk's late retirement derailed some free agency plans, and he brought in AB, drafted a first round WR, and traded for Sanu. It hasn't worked out but the pieces are, or at least were, there for this to be a competent offense, if not world beating.

Could I compare the Patriots to the Seahawks for a minute, who are making it work with similar weapons and a mediocre offensive line. Lockett and Edelman are comparable. Harry and Metcalf are both high pick rookies. Carson/Penny and Sony/White are similar. And then there are a couple of jags behind them. What's the difference in effort there? And the difference in results? Well Wilson is playing at an MVP level while Brady is *****ing about the offense. Clearly Brady is not the problem here but he isn't playing hugely well. I do wish he would go back to 2003 Brady and find a way to make things work a little better.

Seattle is one of the top rushing teams in the league so no it’s unfair. They have 1,724 yards through 12 games. Don’t forget Brady’s 42 to wilson’s 31. Our second leading receiver is a running back at 512. Think about that. The next closest is Dorsett with a lousy 347 yards. This offense has been pedestrian. Wasn’t like that at the start but now it’s bad. Dorsett’s career high in yards is 528 back in 2016 with the dolts.

Right now this team doesn’t have a true number 2 wideout. It’s basically a share by committee after edelman. I never saw sanu as a number 2. More like a 3.

Can you give a cliff notes of anything interesting he had to say about it?

Unless there's a tremendous change in approach, Brady's outta here

I think we can both agree that Brady is the last guy to give a hoot about records.

??

The point was that the Broncos didn't win in spite of Manning. He was still a very good QB.

If he thinks he has a better shot to be successful somewhere else then for the first time he is free to move on. I doubt he will do that..

But if he ends up being hesitant about the Pats offer and does a prolonged FA tour it could force BB's hand to protect the team from ending up without Brady and without whoever would be attractive to them in FA.

All in all something to be concerned about as soon as the season ends.

I think the next 4 games are really telling. If they somehow beat KC and Buffalo, then getting to another SB would not be shocking, if they win their last 4 games, it could be like last year when the Pats came into form the last 2 games, and it carried over to the playoffs. If they lose to KC & Buffalo, they may finish at 12-4, but they'd probably be one of the worst 12-4 teams in the last few years, and most likely 1 and done.

IF they turn it around, and the Pats miraculously win another SB, I would not be surprised if Brady retired at that point. IF they go 1 and done, I still don't see Brady leaving the Pats. They will work something out. I would be shocked to see Brady in a different uniform. The ONLY way (IMO), is if Belichick believes that Brady is done, and convinces Kraft to let him go. They would also have to feel extremely confident that Stidham is ready to take over.

There are no good QBs in FA.

I mean, even the good ones, who end up with huge contracts, like Nick Foles, end up sucking.

Eli's gonna look great as a member of the Patriots...

It doesn't matter if there are any great QBs in FA or not. I don't see any way they will go into the next season without a veteran at QB. Whether that is Brady, Tannehill, Mariota, Bridgewater, Winston or someone else entirely.

Do I like the prospect of someone else ? No.

But as with all other positions you can't expose yourself to the FA whims of a player and risk ending up with empty hands. I am sure there will be more patience and goodwill with Brady than with most other FAs but at some point there will be a "take it or leave it" deadline.

Yes i think this might be it.☹️ Unfortunately i don’t feel that confident in number 7 because the offense stinks!
Agreed.

I think Brady is gone cause he absolutely isn't speaking of retirement, in fact, stated that he feels he could play for another 5 years or something. They better make this guy happy, starting with getting AB back here.

In the history of the league I think Brees & Manning were the best & both were banged up. I could be forgetting someone(s) but again in terms of guys you could build around there might not even be a list.

It never ends well does it?. The question here is what type of money is tom looking for. I always thought that these guys where basically in a year to year thing. Frankly i feel brady deserved better this year and it might end with a thud. I hope not but time is running out on this offense. Just put it together. McDaniels be creative.

Foles might suck, or he might be the MVP. Who the hell knows?
