Wait, do we have any healthy wide receivers left?

Whatever helps with Michel, he balled out in getting a sixth Lombardi. So I don’t think you can ever say the pick was that bad.

Having said that, really can’t argue he’s better than Chubb.

Ok we disagree.

There is nothing to disagree about. Chubb was clearly the better runner. Chubb was clearly running behind the lesser line. Chubb was clearly being supported by the lesser QB.

Yes I disagree with your OPINION. I disagree with both your assessment and the criteria you use. Arguing is pointless so I will leave it at that

I think you can still say that pick was bad if he doesn’t amount to anything else. We used a first round pick on him for multiple seasons of good contributions not one post season behind great run blocking.

Agreed about Chubb, it’s not really an argument IMO.

Bashing Michel is completely unfair... You lose Andrews... You lose gronk and the replacement tightends can stay on the field or block. You lose your projected starting left tackle... Guys you signed decided to retire and you lose two full backs... What else can go wrong?

We invested first round picks at the RB and Wr position and both players look very slow

Would love to see BB put more emphasis on offensive skilled prospects with elite speed and explosiveness.

Would you take a Larry Fitzgerald in his prime right now? He never had elite speed

He runs hard, makes good decisions and gets the most out of what the blocking gives him. He is a good open field runner but is playing in a system that holds that back because the patriots have a “passing game rb” that gets the opportunities most likely to result in those plays.
runs hard..yet goes too way too easily on first contact. Good open field runner? I rarely see any wiggle if he happens to get through the line. It's like we are talking about 2 different players. I watch a lot of other games and Sony is just a JAG..IMO.

Michel’s blocking’s has been bad, no doubt. But even when he has decent blocking he is no more than an average RB. He doesn’t break tackles, he doesn’t hit the hole hard. He doesn’t have breakaway speed. He has okay vision, I guess.

We could find a back like Sony Michel in the fifth round.

Sony's vision is great. Unfortunately the oline this season has been that bad.

Last season he didn't need much of a crease to make a decent gain. This season he's getting hit behind the line of scrimmage.

He's not a HOFer but he's a solid running back. He's already proven that he was worth the pick imo.

I have a fence to sell you... It's in some Florida swampland

Earl Campbell once had a quote about the difference between short gains and long gains is directly related to being tackled by guys with 90’s on their jerseys as opposed to being tackled by guys with 20’s on their jerseys.

right now Michel is looking at a sea of 90’s.

No no no! We don't know that a better player would have performed better!

we do know that the patriots front office knows more about football and football players than some clown from nowhere....good place to start

5th year option????? He's halfway through his 2nd year. Your post is funny.

That's really a question for this time in 2021, if he makes it that far.

.
Just what I want from a first round pick. A guy who may not play out his rookie contract.

Pretty much my opinion on sony. He isn't anything special but he's solid when he's not running behind a trash oline.

No sane person disputes that Chubb has been the better player to date. The dispute is who the better player will be. And, given the knee problems of Michel, the odds are against it being the player the Patriots drafted.

And this isn’t hindsight analysis. The moment Michel was picked tons said if we had to take a RB should have taken Chubb.

I love how we talk about the "skill positions" and "elite skilled" players, then say they have to be explosively fast.

Saying "Skill" players and "skill positions" for guys who mainly do have to first and foremost run real fast is a total misnomer.

The only excuse you can use for saying they're "skill" players is their route running, catching, blocking, etc. skills.

This isn't so much about the present argument as it is about our stupid football language that talks about "skill positions" to the exclusion of interior linemen, who, paradoxically, have to practically internalize sumo wrestling, mime, and three dimensional hand jive to even see the field (except if playing left tackle for your New England Patriots.)

This season has been a virtual primer on the value of the skills of the "non skill" positions.

that is all. Until my next purely observational post...

With the amount of time you've spent barking on this topic, can you go back and show us your posts from the 2018 draft where you said this?
