Jeff Howe: Pats in market for a WR and TE

I’d flip a 6th or 7th to BAL for TE Nick Boyle. He was rated as the best blocking TE in the league last year. Also, has pretty soft hands as well. That being said, Howard is still the “Belle of the Ball.”

Would like to see Howard pulled a ramsey. Get me out of here. The guy has 141 yards through 5 games. I thought he would have a breakout year this season. Idk much about the type of routes he runs as a tight end but a guy that big and fast should be a mismatch against linebackers .

OK, I'll bite. Why would BALT want to trade away the best blocking end in the NFL lat year?

Keenan Allen’s salary is terrific considering his production. He’s a steal at his current number IMO. Chargers ain’t trading him, but boy; would that be a coup

How exactly do you know that the Chargers ain’t trading him? They may not but to make a definitive statement about the plans of the Chargers front office is silly, when it involves a veteran WR. if you wanted to state that they aren’t trading BosaI would buy that.

The next 3 games the Chargers play Pitt, Tenn and Chicago, before the trade deadline on 10/29. They could very well lose two of those three and they would be sitting at 5 losses before facing the Packers the following week and the Chiefs twice later in the season.

In that scenario, you are absolutely sure that they would not trade Allen for the right package?

It was just an idea, but let’s play. I mentioned Boyle because BAL has the deepest TE rotation in the league & may be willing to part with one of them after heavily investing in TEs over the past few seasons (Andrews - 3rd rounder & Hurst- 1st rounder). Both of those TEs have also developed as blockers since being drafted, which gives them dual threat capability. We know BAL is a run heavy team, so while it’s a bit of a long shot, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

It would have been much easier to draft a TE, no?

Jeremy Hill is now available as well. I figured he can be a serviceable FB if needed.

Most of them aren’t doing anything worthwhile. There were 14 tight ends drafted outside the top 20. Izzo has more yards per game than 12 of them, and Moreau has a whole 0.4 yards per game advantage. Drafting a tight would have only made any kind of difference if that tight end had been Knox.

''but having a top 5 TE with our next QB after Brady''

Dude has 141 yds this year in 5 games / 11 rec, and he is top 5? They will pay for his potential but his production (lack of) is alarming ... I would not give him more than a 3rd comp. It is a win win situation. Bucs don't use him and recoup some of their investiment.
I’m confused. Didn’t you just say you would give up 4 premium draft picks for Howard & Godwin? Now you’re saying you would only give up a 3rd rd comp pick for Howard? So, you’re telling me you would give up a 1st, and two 2’s for Godwin, and you’re going to criticize this dude for calling Howard top 5?! I’ve gotta be missing something here.

Are you really going to disagree with BBs reasoning for having players on STs?

Prior to the game vs WASH the NEP were allowing 30.6 yards per KR.

Vs WASH there weren't any kick returns. Richards had 25 ST snaps.
Vs NYG there were 2 KRs. One was for 29 the other for 24. Richards had 13 ST snaps.

They are now 27th in KR ave allowed. That sucks, but improving.

The longer field an offense has vs THIS defense is all the better.

The shorter a field THIS offense has the better.
Having a shorter field by 5 yards isn't going to mean diddly squat if team can't block to get run going or score more pts in RZ, both of which Watson can help with.

Richards is irrelevant unless Watson is a top defensive STer.

If Watson were considered better than Izzo or LeCosse, he would have been activated.

The third possibility is that LeCosse injured himself again and needs to be put on IR. If that is the case, Watson (even now) will be considered, along with other possibilities.
You are seriously saying that both Izzo and LaCosse are better than Watson? If that is the case then Watson truly sucks and should not be brought back.

I think there is more to the Watson release than meets the eye. Was mentioned as a cap casualty but yet here the rumors flying for a trade for a TE? Makes no sense because there’s room now to bring him back if they chose to.

a fire hydrant is a better tight end than Lacosse.

Agree. BB said there was no room on the roster, and apparently thats what Ben was told also. Others say this was to save cap $$.

Well, there is now room on the roster (german IRd), and LaCosse is injured (again). Plus works within the cap. Familiar with the O since was here all preseason.

If they don't bring him back, then BB is a f^*king liar.

Austin Hooper. He's in the final year of his rookie contract and the Falcons are tanking. They don't have the cap space to give him a second contract

edited to add: didn’t see Illegal Contacts post

I don't think the Falcons are tanking, I think they just suck really badly. They're (poorly) built to compete this year, and Dan Quinn is on the hot seat with every incentive to win now and zero incentive to look to the future.

That said, if the front office decides this season is a lost cause it won't really be Quinn's call, and Belichick and Dimitroff have what I assume is a pretty solid relationship given that he came from here.

I suppose that the falcons could see their way to trading us Hooper for a 3rd or 4th. Hooper can't save Quinn's job.
