Safe, conservative draft picks

One thing that I forget to mention in these "safe" picks is that Patriots would do well to stock up on DEs and DTs; that is the strength of the draft and it is best to draft to the strength. I suspect that the Patriots are going to definitely pick a DT, and I would expect some edge or outside LBs also.

BTW, I watched some Starks highlight and wow. He just dominated the game. And to all you WR geeks out there, I was surprised to see how Starks just murdered Luther Burden III--just killed him, sometimes behind the line of scrimmage. I thought that Burden was a fantastic WR, but now I gotta wonder. Someone is going to get an center field assassin when they draft Starks, but it will not be the Patriots, alas.

This draft is a weak draft in that there are only 2 blue chip players and zero red chip players. The players that excel from this draft class are the players that land on teams best suited scheme wise to that players abilities!
It matters not where the player is taken, as much as getting the players that fit your schemes best!!!

I don't agree with that. There are like 15-20 red chip players.

Clearly your standard for a red chip player is lower than mine.
Outside of maybe (and maybe in the sense if you stretch your mind to the improbable zone) maybe the Boise running back or the penn state tight end, but realistically nothing after Hunter or Carter is making coordinators have to alter their plans!!!!!

It's less that they aren't red chip players and more that they are all questionable red chip players. There's like 10 guys after Hunter/Carter where if they live up to their best case scenario could be forces in the league, but they all have serious reasons for hesitations where their worst case scenario could be "mid" or even "dud".

Campbell being the easiest to demonstrate it with. If he hits his absolute potential, he's a stud OT that is a slam dunk for us for years to come. However, it's just as likely that he can't even play the position we draft him for, we have to move him to a lower value position and then there's growing pains where he's only serviceable there.

Hell I think you could argue Jeanty is pure red if not borderline blue, he's just at a very unvaluable position.
