Part of the equation might be bringing Watson back. Who the hell knows? farn is correct on the Wynn comment. Although....Is there a possible defensive player on the roster who is capable of getting a few snaps at fulback much like Vrabel did at TE?
My point is I do not think Harry returning punts is an option. And I'm aware that he didn't return punts this pre-season. So I'm not sure what your point was.

So the Patriots currently have three players - Harry, Wynn and Develin that are on IR and potentially any two of those could be designated to return. They have a decision to make, potentially as early as this week.
Here are the rules:
At any time after six weeks have elapsed since a player was placed on Reserve/Injured or Reserve/Non-Football Injury/Illness, each club is permitted to designate two players for return from either list to the club’s 53-player Active/Inactive List.
...
A player whom the club wishes to designate for return is permitted to return to practice for a period not to exceed 21 days. The club is required to notify the League office that the player has been “Designated For Return” on the first day the player begins to practice. The player cannot be returned to the Active/Inactive List until eight weeks have elapsed since the date he was placed on Reserve.
So we are coming up to 6 weeks from when Harry was placed on IR (September 2nd) - that means that if the Patriots wish, they could designate him to return this coming week (after Oct 14). They would then have a maximum of three weeks to activate him, and he could play any time after two weeks of practice.
Wynn was placed on IR on September 17, so he is about two weeks behind Harry. If we assume he is guaranteed a slot, then it's between Develin and Harry for the second slot. Develin (September 23) is about a week back from Wynn.
So there are two issues here - first, which is more valuable to the team, Develin or Harry, and second whether Develin's neck injury is a temporary or more lasting injury.
If we assume Harry's turf toe is better by now, then if we don't see him activated this week it means they are hankering over Develin instead.
I guess the trade deadline plays into this too - if they get another receiver that lessens the need for Harry. Can Damien Harris perhaps play fullback?
Thoughts?
Yea that might be too strong but I don't think they give Guns the boot for Harry and he then becomes PR1Not an option? That's strong. But fine ...
Harry is not a trade or a player from the street but someone who spent almost the entire offseason and preseason with the team. I don't understand this "may not be an upgrade" angle here.
He lost some time in the first part of the regular season but it is not like there is too much depth in front of him where he won't even get snaps.
He will be productive and a key cog if health permits.

Maybe they let him return a couple....
If they keep 2 TEs and don't backfill Dev and Johnson they just mightSo, we'll keep 5 WR's plus Gunner plus Slater? As we discussed throughout the offseason, I don't think that a #4 WR gets (or should get) very many reps, especially with 3 WR's who are targets. The #5 WR is totally excessive, and would be kept just as a developmental player for 2020.
Also, I disagree with your implication that surely Harry will get lost of reps because it is not like there is too much depth in front of him. If Edelman, Dorsett and Gordon are healthy, I expect the #4 WR to get very, very few reps, whether his name is Harry or Meyers.

Yeah, I'd like to see Harry return but not as a PR, where outside of one muff Gunner has been perfectly fine.Won't happen.
Harry didn't do any significant PR work in preseason.
Gun is entrenched at PR and he should be
Is it fair to assume that it’s harder to replace 1st round LT talent and 1st round WR talent on the cheap than it is to replace FB position which the league barely uses. If all 3 are healthy, has to be Wynn and Harry while they trade for a FB on the cheap
Wynn is pretty much a lock for one spot, I assume. OT depth is so bad around the league that there's just no other way to get anything close to what he offers. Plus turf toe is the kind of injury that tends to linger if you play through it, but as I understand it as long as he rests until fully healed (hence the IR designation) he should be fine when he comes back in the general IR-return timeline.
As far as Harry vs. Develin, I think that's a tough call if they could both get fully healthy. When Develin was IRed, though, pretty sure I recall there being skepticism that he'd be healthy in time to play this season, which would make Harry the clear candidate to take the second spot. He has skills that, with Gordon less than 100%, this team needs, and even when Gordon is healthy he still stands to be an additional red zone threat at a minimum.
