After 400 years, one would have thought the Puritan gene had been bred out of the cement head population.

Blue laws have been relaxed
Wellesley sells booze now
Casinos and gambling are the new norm
Weed is here to stay

But give a nice tip to two exotic flowers for services rendered and the wood gets stacked for a Salem trial by bonfire

Tip of the cap to the Puritans. They didn't burn any witches at the stake, they just hung them (except one poor guy who was crushed with a board because he wouldn't admit his sorcery). Hey, you gotta find a positive in any bad situation. :)
But to be serious, this is now less of the legacy of puritanism but more about the reality of politics. The 'puritanical' laws you mentioned have abated because the politics of it isn't nearly as costly. But when it comes to sex there still is a wide enough cross section, which will include in part purantism, to make it a political negative. There's a number of laws now that would be polar opposite to the extreme of puratanistic but again those don't strike a larger cross section of political cost like sex does, IMHO.

After all these centuries, with history cycling time and again, one would have thought that humans would have figured out that morality matters, and prevented the current slide into libertinism.

You sound like the Ayatollah.

Sexual morality is a small part of being a moral person. Honesty and truthfulness I value much higher than who or with whom some one is having sex with. With Adultery being the most immoral act as it combines sexual immorality with being dishonest and a liar.

But that’s YOUR morality. You don’t actually believe that others should be subjected to what you determine morality to be do you? That’s a very slippery slope.

It’s cyclical.
1) Morality matters
2) cultural norms are challenged
3) morality stops mattering
4) things go to hell
5) morality matters again.

We are somewhere between 3 and 4

My post should not have been taken as an endorsement of Robert Kraft or billionaires more generally
I don’t think that anyone who looks at your avatar, or knows that you have experience in the union, thought that. :)

Are we talking morality as it pertains to weed and gambling lol?

They will be judged by me only. I don't presume to tell someone this is how they should behave or to tell others how they should judge people that I find offensive. If you are a liar or a cheat, or commit adultery, I am going to judge you as a human being and as someone I rather not associate with. We all know men and women who we worked with that cheat, and I never had a problem disassociating my self from them.

And to me- drug, alcohol and gambling use has no bearing on my opinion of thier moral character. Now if the use of those activities has a negative influence on parenting or interpersonal relationships that is another story.
But somebody sparking up a joint, having a drink or betting 25 bucks on the pats does not show a flaw in character.

Live and let live....(except for Rosie O'Donnell)

Are you God?

And no one really cares about how you judge them.

If I had feelings they might be hurt right now

Prosecutors turn up the heat on Patriots owner Robert Kraft

But now lawyers for the state are arguing for the first time that Kraft — charged with two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution — actually committed a felony.

The latest court filing from the Attorney General’s Office suggests Kraft could face a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison, if the state wins its appeal of a lower court order favoring the billionaire.

Elevating multiple misdemeanors to a felony would be an unusual move, for sure.
