AB threatens to retire (Helmet-Gate)

lol saw this article today about Antonio Brown and how the Raiders may be looking into how to void his entire contract... and all I could do was laugh my ass off hahaha!

Man what a fanatical little diva this guy is. What I find even more amazing is that there are STILL posters on this board being like "BB should bring him in if he becomes available"

Don't bring this tumor anywhere near our organization. He's a massive head case that doesn't understand his place within an organization as a player. When is he ever NOT in the news, trying to get any kind of attention he can and causing massive disruption to his team in the process?

The idea of signing this guy is crazy

AB is nuts..so what

  1. I think the thing that is being lost in this circus is that it goes FAR beyond a simple screaming match between a player and a GM. The screaming match was a climax to a LONG series of events when AB simply acted like HE was running the show. It’s not about the helmet story either, its about CONTINUALLY missing meetings and practices on NUMEROUS occasions.

Easy to focus on the one altercation, and say they can fix it. But how can you fix something with a player who has decided he doesn’t want to be part of a team, and just play for it…..when he feels like it. Suspend him, get every last dollar you paid him, and move on.

Great talent, great player, very sad story

On the other hand, after AB washes out and limps out of Oakland with his reputation in shatters, and nothing in his pocket; that would lead us to only one conclusion. Where to players go to rebuild their reputations and earning power in the NFL. He flees to NE where he plays for $1MM and incentives that could get him to $6MM. All incentives are for games played and team success. If the team does well and he shows up and plays he gets the money if he doesn't make a catch all year (learning tool)

  2. With AB's help, the Pats win another superbowl. In the spring, AB signs a 3 year deal with the Pats that could average 14MM/yr A small signing bonus, little guaranteed money. Full of TEAM incentives.
In August it comes to light that AB has missed several meeting and is complaining about his contract all the time. After a meeting with Bill, Brown is released with no other comment except for one that ends, "we always do what is best for the team" And the AB era in NE is over.
Nope. Don't want him, don't need him and Bill wouldn't touch him with a 20 foot pole.

If any team could get this weirdo under control, it would be the Patriots. I don’t really see a problem bringing him in. If there’s any sniff of him being an *******, release him. If he behaves, you have a top 3 receiver on your team.

Hey...look Haley was all pro five or six ttimes...yeah I ner wanted him on the Pats..of course I'm lying...Kaepenik..**** him and its not footaball

All kidding aside, I keep going back to that quote from Belichick a few years ago about being too old to coach players whom he doesn’t like. That isn’t the real quote but that was the gist of it. I can’t imagine that AB trying to fight a good friend of his would put him in the “I like this guy“ category.

The man needs help, imo

That's not really true but in BB I trust...he tristed thatscumbag ex Ravn LB...remember?

...interesting that the tip of this particular iceberg was a dispute over a helmet...fits the story line that AB is a headcase :p

...as for the talk of an "Antonio Brown Era" in New England, I'll just say what I always say: "In BB I trust." If Belichick thinks he can turn this sow's ear into a silk purse with a contract stuffed with incentives, then it's "Welcome to Foxboro, Antonio." Otherwise, go p!$$ on some other team's doorstep.

Bill has taken on Corey Dillon. Bill has taken on Albert Haynesworth. Bill has taken on Josh Gordon. Bill has taken on Chad Johnson. There is no reason to think that AB would somehow be an automatic "NO".

My only regret is that all of this drama is no longer with the Steelers. The Raiders probably weren't much of a threat to anyone AB or not.

Yeah, I stopped claiming this around Randy Moss or so...

So...2 outta 4 ain't bad?

All valid points. But my feeling is... Bill loves a bargain.

He is not afraid to roll the dice on guys with questionable character...

Bryan Cox - great move
Corey Dillon - great move
Randy Moss - great move
Albert Hayworth - bust
Josh Gordon - the jury is still out.

There are probably more that I can’t think of at this time.

The list was nowhere near exhaustive, Captain, and everyone is hit or miss when it comes to dealing with players that have issues. This is not the troll hill for you to die on.

I have 2 words for AB. “SEEK THERAPY”.
This is not about football anymore.
This is a man that is self destructing

Maybe there's something to that crazy internet theory that this was an elaborate scheme for AB to get to the Pats.
-He was expressing interest in the Pats with tweets last year;
-He knew that there was no way in heck that the Steelers would trade him to Pats;

Is this all by design?

I'd put Gordon in the great move category actually. Minimal risk, he produced and assimilated into the culture with ease.

We all know he relapsed but he wasn't a "problem" per se which would have required BB to cut him.
