Patriots Cuts

Dolphins are being smart. They’re not going to contend, so they get rid of guys, stock up on picks, hopefully find a quarterback and build a team. If I’m a fan I’d much rather see that approach them sputtering along with seven wins year after year.

They also have Rosen for a tryout year. The strategy is good for the long term. The players and fans will probably be bleating because of the short term.

And Patriots fans will absolutely lose their freakin' minds if the Dolphins beat the Patriots this year.

Seems like a pretty good bet that he’s coming back guys, so you can probably relax.
Could be, but still doesn’t excuse someone making claims of DT as a lock and criticizing everyone and anyone who disagreed

I agree that you are unlikely to ever understand.

A wink/handshake isn't necessary. Thomas wants to play here is doing the team a favor. I presume that the team will give him a guaranteed contract tomorrow.

We could do the same thing with Slater and/or Ebner.

Unless Thomas comes back, this is the most bizarre, mind boggling, infuriating cut I can remember in decades.

Why take him off of PUP, let him practice, let him play, excel beyond expectations, and then cut him ? I will NEVER understand this move unless there is some kind of wink/handshake agreement that will bring him back ASAP. The guy can now chose his team, and there are a ton of WR starved teams out there. Definitely need some blood pressure pills ASAP.

OT, and someone might want to put it in the NFL transactions thread, but check this out:

Lol this is awesome news

Maybe Caserio will think he won't be able to reconstruct without picks in time and flame out in Houston

Thank you B'oB!

If it's basically a phantom cut in order to facilitate other roster moves, why wouldn't it?

I wonder what happened in Seattle for Jacob Hollister to be cut. I remember reading what a great pick-up he was and how the Pats got fleeced.
I'm assuming we get to keep the 7th round pick we received in the trade.

Yes.. The pick was NOT conditional.

I don't know about the longer term, but my guess is that the Texans are now the favorites to win the AFCS.

They have a QB they are hoping to build around in Rosen..

I think regardless of what happens on Monday and thereafter now, he's playing for a LOT more than "3 hots and a cot". Gunner just was guaranteed over a half MILLION dollars.
How does that work? I thought your salary was pro-rated based on how many games you were on the 53, so if he gets cut.....

I will update as I can. Thank you to Patfranken and Kenneth Simm for posting these.
That looks like a kick ass roster to me, at least on paper.

I'm sure BB will fill the few voids.

I'm super psyched this year!!!

Cuz god forbid anyone would ever have a wrong opinion about who will make the patriots 53.
Thomas probably plays vs the Steelers.

We could do the same thing with Slater and/or Ebner.
He may end up with a new contract with bigger incentives too since he signed it in a cast and already showed he can play.

Big question to me right now is how did Friday go for him after playing.

Thomas didn’t have a favorable contract in terms of performance incentives so it might make sense for him to be cut and sign a different deal anyway.

I don't know about the longer term, but my guess is that the Texans are now the favorites to win the AFCS.
AS long as O'Brien is running the show, that will be highest banner they will raise

Why do we keep Develin when all of these teams are doing away with fullbacks?
For the same reason we let you and your ilk hang around this forum.

Hjalte Froholdt is a likely IR candidate with a shoulder injury, per source.

Combine that with this

It's very likely the Patriots will use Demaryius Thomas' roster spot to put someone on the returnable IR, then bring him back as soon as Monday. He doesn't have to clear waivers. Reading the tea leaves, seems like what's in the works

And we have a very plausible explanation of one of the Thomas/Hoyer duo.
