Patriots Cuts

I’m not convinced BB sees those bottom players as developmental. He wants ST contributors there, for the most part. All players on the roster & PS are coached and hopefully they develop.

Ion the same vein : I’m growing tired of those on the board that fall in love with a player and lament their release. I’m a fan of the team. I want wins and SBs.
St contributors aren’t the bottom spots, they are active every game. The bottom spots are the guys who are inactive when everyone is healthy. Usually necessary depth (8th ol for example) or developmental guys, never core special teamers.

A bit shocked they cut Munson....honestly thought he would make it....maybe will make it to practice squad but doubtful if anyone is paying attention
Munson played well against 3rd and 4th stringers. He wasn’t that good. People ripped on Myers in the 3rd preseason game when he was the #2 receiver out there.

From Hoyer's point of view, he had 1.5m guaranteed salary from the Patriots so he could potentially cash in nicely with a number of teams needing a backup.

Miguel with the nitty gritty,

Not shocking, but I was in the “they’re keeping Hoyer”.

IMO, in the past, BB has been willing to keep one or two developmental players, who were not expected to ever be active, except perhaps as emergency STers. A 6th WR might fit this bill, or a 6th CB. This year, this isn't much of any issue, since we have no such player.

There was a lot to like about Munson, but it's not like he was Winovich or Bentley.

There will be another like him next year.

When you can cut someone like Munson, it means your team is good.

I expect Hoyer back after an IR move.
I Dont think so he gets his guaranteed money from us and he will go Cash in with another team on top of that.
Surprised they couldnt trade him.

His guaranteed cash will be offset if he goes somewhere else, so it doesn't matter if he re-signs here or elsewhere.

I read it as he gets money from both teams but Patriots get the cap they lost this season back next season.

I have egg on my face right now, but after the IR moves are done, I expect to eat that egg (in an omelet...with mushrooms and cheese....and a bit of hot sauce)

Too many Hoyer fanboys here. Moving on from him like we did with Mallett.

If Hoyer can get real money, wouldn't some team have offered a 7th for him and picked up this contract?

Holding spot for a IR guy or to overload the OL for the first week or 2 until the traded for guys are ready.
Actually a nobrainer if you think about it.

You’d think reports of his release would have been accompanied by rumors of his return, however. This has always been a possibility. Belichick is loathe to keep 3 QBs. Especially if he thinks the younger QB has as good a chance to keep the ship right if Brady should go down.

This is the day that “In Bill I Trust” rings truest to me. You will disagree with this but Belichick has peers and perhaps superiors when it comes to acquiring players, but he has no peers whatsoever when it comes to knowing what players to keep or how to use them.

It's doubtful they keep:

Nick Brossette
Jakob Johnson
James Ferentz
Cole Croston
Terez Hall
Ken Webster
Malik Gant

which brings us to six left to cut.

I am sure some will add to this list, but these are definite IMO.

Johnson isn't going anywhere. He's guaranteed a Practice Squad Roster Spot. He has never counted against the 90 man roster and he won't count against the Practice Squad roster.
