I dont think you can anoint Stidham anything yet. He hasn't taken a snap in a real NFL game yet. It would be like saying Jacoby Myers is better than Philip Dorsett at this point.

We very well could. That's not really breaking news. The idea that Hoyer could come in & lead this team beyond a few games is the big point. Along w Deus saying Hoyer >Stidham which is asinine.

You keep Hoyer for a few reasons. None of which are the above reasons.

Yes, a proven ability to win games in the NFL is one reason to keep a player in the NFL. That's beyond question for any but the most foolish of people.

I understand that. But personally I'd rather have the next best player, defensively or offensively, on the roster than a # 3 QB. I think that gives the team a better chance to win with the either the starting or the # 2 QB.

I want Sidham as the B/U. I want the team to keep another DB or DE in place of Hoyer. I think Hoyer would not be picked up when the team cuts down to 53 and allow him to be on a "shadow" roster. If not it is 2 mill more of cap room next year.

I agree with you except I believe Hoyer will get grabbed by another team as a backup pretty quickly. That opinion is more a reflection of the state of qb play in the NFL rather than Hoyer's ability. As I've stated before, seems like a great guy and teammate, but he'll never be anything other than an OK back-up, at least in my eyes.

You said Hoyer has played better than Stidham so far. W absolutely nothing to back that up I might add.
You're really trying to make a case that Hoyer can win games in this league. If he was cut tomorrow he'd need a favor or perfect situation to even hold a clipboard.

Would love to hear anyone try to explain Hoyer >Stidham so far in terms of who's played better? Can't wait for the responses.

The thing that's impressed me most about Stidham is that he seems to have very good pocket awareness. He made a lot of subtle little steps this way and that way to allow his line to deflect the rush and buy him extra bits of time while he went through his reads downfield. It's easy to tell which quarterbacks don't have that skillset, those are the ones who end up on their butt out there a lot (Jacoby Brissett, for example, was not good at this). Stidham's movements in the pocket were very decisive and efficient, especially for a rookie.

We have a master of pocket awareness for a QB1 so this is very easy to overlook, but coming from a rookie, I was amazed with just how proficient Stidham is at this particular art form. Shows that he's got a good hdea on his shoulders at least, once that head is filled with a bit more NFL knowledge, we'll see, I think we all might be pleasantly surprised

An additional problem with Hoyer is that when he was starting games around the league he got concussed 4 times and had other injuries that he could play through but wasn't the same. He is older now and hasn't started a game for years now. When the backup QB goes down there isn't a lot of hope, BB was able to win one game with Jakob Biscuit that time but it was a home game against the Texans the most overrated team from the last 5 years or so.

You have to question his ability to hold the fort for 6 games. If he goes down after 3 games the rookie comes in and will take another 2 games to get acclimated.

He struggled at times w pocket presence/awareness at Auburn so this is good to see. He made a few nice plays in the pocket last game. One from his blindside & one up the middle. Both very poised & calm.

Maybe it's big recruits not meshing at Auburn? BC as well?


*Side Note*
Last two Draft classes look pretty good rn. Actually very good. Multiple starters & contributors from each one. This team, like always, will be much better in Dec/Jan.

If they really believe that Stidham has future starter potential, and maybe even top 15 QB potential, then it makes sense to take the long term option and cut Hoyer. That might hurt them slightly this year given they will be missing Hoyer's ability to run the offense in practice. However, it will give Stidham a year of development running the scout team etc and really honing his skills. As QB3 there just won't be the reps to go round during the season you imagine.

Keeping Hoyer is the safe option for 2019 but cutting him will help in Stidham's long term development.

OK, I have to say, I have been impressed by Stidham who is looking a very astute signing,

However, is there a chance that the talk about making him QB2 at the expense of Hoyer is a bit premature? After watching the game last night, there were a few possible interceptions that would have made his box score look a lot worse. Of course the good stuff was brilliant, there is no doubt

Would you been inclined to keep him as QB3, let him develop, and then make the step up next year?

if they can afford to have 3 QBs on the roster, then i would do that. If not, he is your QB2.

My take:

a.) I am ALL IN on the Brady era. If Brady gets hurt, it's pretty much a "lost season" to me.

b.) Sure, Hoyer could come in and be competent....and let the D win games for us...but I still don't see better than a 11-5/Divisional Round ceiling for a Hoyer led Patriot team....

c.) In a "lost season", I'd rather Stidham get reps....
