Yes but is Hoyer good enough if Brady goes down ...
I bet the coaches have a weighted answer for that and we'll soon see.
In any case I don't see it as Stidham vs Hoyer because realistically keeping 3 QB's
is optimal assuming you're not cutting another very valuable player.

Keep Hoyer (2) and Stidham (3). Stidham looks to have all the attributes but he's currently running a generic vanilla offense against players on the bubble. Hoyer has years under his belt in the system and is obviously a more adequate #2 (today).

Stidham could very well be the future (very nice arm, accurate, good size)...BUT look for Tommy to light it up (as usual) for the next couple years. I feel like this years team is stacked on both sides of the ball and will be for the near future. This typically translates to TB12 delivering another ring to One Patriot Place.

Mallet wasn't a rookie when Hoyer was released.

Agree, it’s a tough call because their final cuts are going to be good prospects. I do think a Brady would rather have Hoyer on the team to bounce things off during games and the week.

Wait, is my math off. I thought JG was a rookie in 14 and he was the only backup to Brady.

I suppose one could make a case that keeping Hoyer is good for Stidham's development. Brady is going to be locked in during the season. Working w rookies. New pieces in Wynn, even Gordon if hes back. Lots of work to do besides worry abt Stidham.
Hoyer could be that guy saying "you see that"? "You know why he went there as opposed to underneath"?
Helping him behind the scenes. I doubt Tom wants that role in any way.

That said I dont see much more than that in keeping Hoyer. The idea that he'd win more games than Stidham at this point in his career if Brady goes down is laughable.
By all accounts he's looked better in practice. We've seen he's been better in games. We know Bill can win w young QBs if he's forced too. We've seen this multiple times. And frankly Stidham has a better skill set to work w at this point.

If we're talking about 2-3 games I suppose both could manage but ask yourself who you want in there longer than that. Again Hoyer isn't winning you anything let's not be silly. I'd much rather see what we have in Stidham than what we & everyone else knows we have in Hoyer.

StudHam’s play action is exquisite. When you consider he didn’t play much under center at Auburn, I am forced to believe the guy is a natural and will soon be the N-GOAT

For the denser ex high school warriors.....

Hoyer has shown an ability to win NFL games, and Stidham has not. That alone means that such an idea is not laughable.

You keep Hoyer bc of everything off the field. Practice sessions. Film study. No serious person thinks he's good for more than a few games.
Stidham has been better in practice & in games.

Besides your post is foolish. By that line of thinking you'd never go w a rookie.

Time to move hoyer along. Brady and Stidham is all we need. We can pick up a practice squad qb at cut down time.

My post is fine. You're not even bothering to think. When you're a serious SB contender, you don't keep a player as your backup because you want to develop him into your backup. You keep your backup because he's capable of backing up. The development QB is what the QB3 spot is for.

And, FFS, Stidham has not been better in games.

Brian Hoyer is seemingly a great guy and teammate. In my opinion, he's also severely limited as a backup QB. If it can be done, I'd be Ok carrying 3. If not, I've seen enough of Stidham to say welcome aboard. Hoyer couldn't throw that back shoulder TD pass Stidham threw if you gave him 50 tries. Sorry, it's not close between these two guys in my opinion. Others may have differing takes, and that's fine. We'll see..

First bolded makes 0 sense. He's not taking this team to playoffs or anything close to that. He might be ok for very games but you're a lottery team w him playing anything more than a couple of games. His presence is/has been behind the scenes. We have a very deep team w some question marks at OL/DL in terms of depth Id much rather use his spot there.

As for Stidham out playing Hoyer that's been obvious. If you can't see that, thats on you. Hes been one of best pa QBs so far. Gotten the ball out a lot quicker. Thrown the ball in the air a lot more which is one of the biggest differences between the two. Arm talent. And Stidhams mobility.

So far Stidham has outplayed him in all areas. Practice, games & has a much better skill set.

If we released both tomorrow 20 teams would be jumping at Stidham while Hoyer would be hoping for a favor from teams/coaches hes familiar w.

I would seriously love to know who thinks Hoyer has been better than Stidham thus far.
