Not to be a smartass cause I get your point but you have no idea how good half-retired Gronk is or what the team will be like by the time he comes back. I don't think it's as much of a slam dunk as it would have been in 2013 or 2014

Gronk seems to have a very good ability to find ways to not be bored. I don't think he needs football to have a good time.

I'm too lazy to look up a link, but I've read several times that he is extremely prudent with his money, he lives on endorsements and invested all of his paychecks over the years.

And that doesn't happen by accident, not that much, that fast. My guess is that he's trying to take as much pressure off his back as possible, to see what impact that has, before deciding if more surgery is necessary. Just walking around everyday, 30 pounds lighter, will take a lot of pressure off of the spine and surrounding muscles. Good for him! Much more important than playing a game for a living.

Although I'll miss seeing him play, I just can't think of many athletes who have come back from the type of repeated back surgeries like Gronk has. I'm old enough to remember Larry Bird having to lay on his back on the bench in horrible pain, and I wouldn't wish that type of problem on anybody. If he can walk away from the game and live something close to a normal, pain free life, good for him.

I'm old enough to remember Larry Bird having to lay on his back on the bench in horrible pain, and I wouldn't wish that type of problem on anybody. I don't know what kind of pain Gronk was in but in interviews I've heard from the surgeons who operated on Larry's back, it's incomprehensible the amount and level of pain he played with.

I really don't know how Bird did it.

What are the odds that Gronk upon retirement tried some PED's or HGH meds, similar to what Watson did, for his many ailments?? If so his reentry may be stymied by the NFL Drug Policy...

I think this is wishful thinking pushed by the media and sportstalk radio..

I'm happy for him and glad he's retired. He had an amazing run and left a huge impact on the game. He's set for life and just want him to be happy and healthy. Any reasons wanting him back would be selfish. Guy has taken a beating. Let the man relax and enjoy life on his terms.

It was never a question of will or desire with Gronk. The man was born to play football. It's a question of what his body can stand.

His arm and knee injuries were the result of NYFL hits but he was drafted with a back injury. Early on he had a bad habit of diving over players and going too far over and landing awkwardly. He did one of those in a game (don't remember which) and when he landed I thought he broke his neck. He definitely came up a little wobbly.
