Patriots Pre-Draft Contacts List 2019

Visits are very offense heavy

I see him as more of an interior player, but he's got enough quickness that he could play outside some, even at 300 pounds. Testing was mostly above average (except for a poor 10 yard split), but he's a strong player with some real potential in a multiple front scheme.

Haven’t watched him yet. Is he a poor mans Zach Allen?

Good way to think about him, yes. The difference is that he was REALLY highly recruited at Auburn before transferring to Maryland.

EDIT: He also showed up pretty well at the Senior Bowl @manxman2601

EDIT2: Here he is against one of my favorite late-round sleepers at OT:

Admittedly it’s still a small list but we’ve only had contact that we know of with three defensive linemen: Jaylon Ferguson, Cowart and Keke. Two of those are day 3 hybrid DLs which might lead us in a particular direction.

Interesting. Looks to have the makings of a good run defender and like the energy. Not much to be offered as an EDGE pass rusher although showed flashes, particularly on the sack. Late off the snap though.

I've been thinking for a while that as much as I like the DL class, this depth chart doesn't show a lot of places for improvement based on where we select. Obviously a top 20 guy could see snaps, but otherwise, where do you fit in a late 2nd rounder in this rotation? Who gets bumped down the chart, or off the roster altogether? I'm adopting your term "day 3 hybrids" now.

Really like Jaylon Ferguson. Really good edge rusher. Is he worth 32 overall ? Might not be there for our 2nd round picks.

56 at the earliest for me. I think there’ll be better guys there at 32. But he’s certainly had a good career and that’s a reasonably good indication of NFL success although not perfect.

And I’ll think we’ll add a FA DT too like Allen Bailey. It is noticeable that there’s been little interest in high pick defensive players*. It’s all been offense. That either means they’re comfortable with their board when it comes to defensive players - nothing that needs to be double checked with a visit - or it’s going to be an offensive draft early on. Team needs suggests the latter.

* It should go without saying that “that we know of” applies here.

Don't be surprised if Tytus Howard ends up being a visitor, he's visited 24 teams so far.

Good point. Which is the more I think about it the more I'm confident that we might only draft 1 DL with our premium picks.

I agree. I think this will be an offense-driven draft.

Agreed. I definitely see WR and TE with our first 4 picks.

Are you saying that Bill will use a 1st round pick on a TE for the first time since Ben Watson?

Are you also saying that all 4 of the their top 4 picks will be a combination of TE and WR?

I don't think we will use a #1 on a TE as I don't think the right one will be there. But Bill will clearly use a #1 on a TE. Graham and Watson, as you know. He wanted Kyle Brady in Cleveland and missed out. None for a while but since Watson then Gronk there wasn't a need.
