Gost is back: Two-year deal

He doesn't have until camp. He has until the draft.

I said it makes zero difference for the Pats when they sign their kicker (whoever that will be) as long as it is before camp. That is completely different than saying Ghost has until camp to decide.

The advantage in going to SF is that it eliminates Gostkowski's greatest weakness: Kicking in Championship games.
This is because Gould has an advantage kicking in Championship games? Playoffs?

That's good, don't have to worry about getting a new kicker for 2 years.

Great news

Well done

Ok, so no Kai Forbath or Robbie Gould. I'd like to know the money, being they are so close to the cap.

Niners were trying to sign him which is why I think they got a deal done. I think BB wanted to wait till after May 7th for comp pick reasons.

Meet the new Gost, same as the old Gost

”Cap is crap”?

They are at 18,2M below. The two year deal can be stuctured in whatever way. The cap is not a problem at all.

What comp pick reason ?

Not so close to the cap given that they have over $18MM in space. I'm guessing the deal will be for around $5MM/yr with a 3-4MM dollar cap hit for this year.

Given that he hits around 85% of his FG's, is a master of the GL kickoff, and isn't a bad tackler, this is a good signing. They MIGHT have found a guy for half that amount, but FG kickers are a mercurial bunch and ALL of them, even the good ones, get into slumps that usually cost them their job. Robby Gould (also known as plan B) lost his job in Chicago while he was one of best kickers in the league.

As 50+ yd FG's become more and more common, having a kicker you know is better than the unknown. File this in the "be careful what you wish for" file.

I completely forgot about gronk's number coming off.

If your FA kicker prefers a different offer in a new city, is that remotely considered "casting away"?

Yeah, that's not what I said, or was referring to. If the Pats had the option of Gould or Gost on close money, choosing Gould would be casting Gost away.
