Patriots Trade for Michael Bennett

Bennett is a nice upgrade to Claiborne.
It would mean exchanging 6 mill cap hit for 9.2 as Claiborne would cost a 2 mill dead money hit. (Or 13.2 to keep both)

BB is doing crossword puzzles while the rest of the league is playing check YO SELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YO SELF.

but we just traded for a 33 year old DE that just recently made demands for more money?

Hope this works out, we don't need any more drama

He was 10 actually at the time, not 13. Can you imagine the football knowledge you would pick living with BB?
No PlayStation for Christmas, kid, unless you can name the defensive backfields of every NFL club for the last five years. And tell me, as an offensive coordinator, how you would attack each one.

I dont think he demanded more money, in response to would he take a pay cut he said no, I should be asking for a raise, I took it like he was sorta joking in response to the pay cut question.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but supposedly he and Schiano have a history. Not in a good way.
You hit the nail on the head.
When Schiano was head coach of the Bucs, Bennet hated him and said so on numerous occasions.
I do not understand why you bring in a soon to be 34 DE/DT who hates the DC AND wants more money next year. He has good "rush the QB" stats but he is an offsides and personal foul machine.
Lastly he has had some off field incidents that suggest he does not like cops and he has also been known to be an "anthem kneeler".

Overall it just does not feel liek a good fit, especially the hate Schiano and frequent penalties part.

But can he rush the passer?

I don’t know what to think of his recent comments, but I share your same concerns. That said, one would have to assume that Belichick is aware of things and felt good enough to pull the trigger.

I’m not too hot on the idea of pairing him with his brother, though. I don’t know why, but it just feels like it has the potential to backfire.

IBBWT.

Forgive my ignorance, but has anyone definitely confirmed that Schiano is going to be the DC? I know that we’re all constantly discussing it, but is there a possibility that he’ll just be a mid-level assistant for the first year?

If that’s the case, he may not be in a position where Bennett’s opinion matters as much. Just a thought. I guess I’m wondering if he could take over Bilema’s job or something like that? Maybe Bilema is the de facto DC? I dunno. I just don’t know if I have seen it confirmed, yet.

Bennett's a clown, but the money thing is being overplayed. He was responding to the idea of a pay cut by saying that he wouldn't accept one and wanted a raise. He didn't get that raise, and life goes on. He's in New England now, and any theoretical raise will rely on a theoretically spendthrift BB.

Agree. Anyone thinking like that should watch the interview, he did not demand a raise and got cut, he just wouldn't accept a pay cut and i dont blame him, it's not his fault the Iggles have cap problems.

He wrote a book called 'Things That Make White People Umcomfortable' lol
Although there are indeed, quite a lot of things that make white people uncomfortable, looking through some of the notes on Bennett’s book makes me take a hard swallow. He sure does have a lot of opinions.

I’m obviously all for supporting, no demanding equality and addressing sociopolitical issues, but I hope that he’s much better known for his play on the field, and that none of his (many) opinions divide the locker room.

People worry too much, if we can’t afford to keep Flowers I think Bennett is a good enough option. I don’t know if he can still be playing 4 downs but during pass rush situation he will be key.

He is still 33 and will become 34 by half season.

Sure he has had off field issues, but that’s not what we bringing this guy in, we are bringing him here so we can give the opposing qb fits like Flowers did last year for us.

We have plenty of leaders on defense on this team, I expect Bennet to stay in check, especially with BB watching him like a hawk.

If he doesn’t work out he walks, not a big deal.

If we somehow manage to keep Flowers then we might end up with one of the best pass rush team in the league.

That was his quote but he extended that quote to “whatever team I go to I want a pay raise”. I think he will soften on that quote. But his quote went further than you suggested

Umm....

He's in New England now, and any theoretical raise will rely on a theoretically spendthrift BB.

Pretty sure that covers the whole "whatever team I go to..." part.

Your quote suggested that he was only responding to the Eagles possibility of wanting him to take a pay cut and him responding that he should get a pay raise. He went further to say that “whatever team I go to I want a pay raise”. His quote was twofold not just in regards to the Eagles but other teams that may want his services. Do I think he will get it. No.

My quote was pretty clear, and my post addressed the idea of Bennett getting a raise in New England.

You're deliberately reading beyond that by ignoring the above portion, likely because of the other thread.

However, it's just about 3 am, and I've got to be out the door early in the morning, so I'm going to try getting some sleep, again. Goodnight.

Time for bb to bear down and get flowers back in the fold.

Sign flowers, draft nt Lawrence of Clemson and our front seven is going to be brutal.

It would be nice but it's probably best described as a prayer. Flowers is gonna be offered some pretty choice $$$ from a few other teams. A basement dweller may even throw in the kitchen sink and the sky. Unless Flowers really wants to stay here and will make it, I don't know, say a 10% trim for the PatsFan Drive for 7 and 8 fund, chances are most likely we should start practicing our "Flowers was overrated" posting (along with a "always thought Bennett was the best in the business" post :))
