Duke QB a target for Pats at #32?

I hope there is a QB there at #32. Then we trade back and pick up an extra 2nd.

QB or not I expect, barring an earlier move, if the draft gets to the point where NE is still in possession of pick 32 when it comes around they will trade it to a team that wants to have the highly desirable 5th year option available for whatever player they select. That option makes picks 30-32 quite a bit more valuable than they used to be.

David Duke taken at pick #32? Strangely enough, I’m so conditioned that nothing would surprise me with this team, anymore.

Can he even throw the ball with that big white sheet on?

Most positions are a crapshoot, but IMO the Patriots have received exceptional value from their QB picks over time.

In the 18-year Brady era, the Patriots have drafted 9 QBS, 4 of those coming in round 7 and the highest pick used being #62.

In return, they've not only received years of backup play and 19 games started by those players with a 12-7 record, but also traded two of the QBs for draft picks #43 and #34 -- picks which come close to recouping the entire value of the draft capital they spent.
This post was too well written and too intelligent for this Messageboard.

Just kidding, really intelligent points that are so true. I agree 100%.

Agreed, I saw a video about Etling, and Etling was the only QB in last year's draft that seemed to meet their criterias. Which is weird. But supposedly he's really smart, loves football (not shocking), and several other things they liked.

Of course, it could've been a case they missed out on other QBs that fit their criteria as well.

As far as Jones. Things to like, VERY smart, great mechanics, was coached by a man who coached both Mannings in college (some may say that's a negative), played well in his last bowl game and the Senior Bowl. Is able to run when needed. Very coachable. Quick release.

Things not to like, very mediocre stats, not the most strong armed or accurate. Sometimes holds onto the ball too long causing sacks.

I saw his Bowl Game this year, and it was extremely impressive, I think he threw for 5 TDs and ran for another, AFTER injuring his ankle. Did throw a dumb INT though, but his team won handily after being down early. Also liked what I saw in the Senior Bowl out of him.
Have to disagree about his accuracy. His intermediate/short accuracy is on point & if he had some WRs his deep % would have been better as well.
Lower half mechanics are great but his delivery is kinda lazy/long even though he does have a quick release. Much like Darnold last year, took him a while to get from A-B but has a quick trigger once the ball is there.

Biggest concern for me has been pocket presence. Seems to have almost no feel for the rush even though his feet are great.

No offense Elijah, but you are just guessing here. Nobody knows what Belichick is thinking about ANY prospect. Let's wait until after the Combine. That being said, there was a lot of alleged smoke about Lamar Jackson last year. I think people write articles just to write them. The Pats are VERY secretive.
When your QB is going to be 42 at the start of next season EVERY pundit is going to link the Pats to some QB or another.

That being said it WOULD be interesting to see what the Pats did if Jones is available to them at #32. We all held our breath when Jackson was there last season. But my guess is that Jones will be long gone by #20.

Overall my guess is that the basic thought process in THIS particular draft is to be in "reload mode" With 12 picks and a draft that's supposedly very deep, I look for us to use our picks to get most of our rookies from rounds 2-4. With some manipulation we could end up with 8 or 9 guys from those rounds.

I like Drew Lock a lot.

I think the only way the Pats take a QB in the first round is if they think he's a top 5 talent who fell.
I don't think it's a forgone conclusion he goes first round. He could slip to the 2d pretty easily.

You could say that about literally any post in this thread including the article. The difference is the authors of all these "Pats 1st round QB is gonna happen for real this year I swear guys" articles we've been seeing since at least 2015 are assuming Brady is about to retire. He's not. We as Patriots fans should know this and stop giving these misinformed authors a platform.
Or they think someone could use a year or two playing behind Brady.

Why would we get an "NFL Ready" clipboard holder?

Right now Danny Etling could easily do the actual job of backing up for us. Why waste the first few years of a guy's career when the guy is ready out of the box? That's inefficient and doesn't meet the needs of either the team or the player.

Let's worry about replacing the GOAT when the GOAT needs to be replaced. We really don't want to outsmart ourselves on this one because we have no idea when Brady will actually be done. In the meantime what we need is someone who can plug the gap for a few years if necessary. That guy doesn't have to be a genius, he just has to be good enough to win football games.
If you wait till he has to be replaced, then you're going to suck miserably for a couple of years. Which, by the way, can ruin a young QB.

"K-k-k coach....do I have to throw these black guys the ball?"...Pats draft this kid and Rob Parker's head will explode. On second thought, DRAFT DAVID DUKE!

There are completely unsubstantiated rumors going around on Twitter that Jones could be in play for the Giants at pick 6.

and there are other "reports" that they want to trade picks with the Jete to move into the 3 slot...so much smoke...gotta be something to it all...

I read an article today that stated the Pats are interested in Mullens who played pretty well for the Niners when Jimmy G went down. Now is there any truth to this who knows.

after seeing Mullens in play last season, I "postulated" that the Return Of The Garrop was only a matter of time. Some conspiracists here thought this from the jump. Hey, stranger things have happened, right?

"K-k-k coach....do I have to throw these black guys the ball?"...
I’m sure that he’d prefer to wear the all-whites, but can you imagine the horror when he tries to introduce the Nazi uniform as an alternate color rush on Thursday Night Football?

He was horrible.

I rather Trade for Rosen

Why did 2 people laugh at this I’d do a trade for him as well and let him lead under Brady for 3-4 years. Well never get a top 15 qb draft talent any other way

He's not a 1st rd prospect, but neither was Brady or Garopollo.

BB can't draft and coach up WR's, but he can definitely coach up the QBs and develop them.
