Most important FA - Flowers or Trent Brown

Patriots have Scar who can coach up mediocre talent to excel. We do not have the same coaching talent for DL. I think Flowers is MUCH harder to replace

Trey Flowers and it's not even close. I don't understand how Trey Flowers is not the #1 Free agent on most media outlet's lists. He's the most versatile d-lineman in the game today.

Why would you dump your starting RT ? He is not overpaid being the #9 paid RT in the league.

Dumping Ebner might be even more absurd. He is a core ST player and impactful and pretty cheap.
why? because you have to dump somebody and these were options

Flowers... this guy is almost a unicorn. He is the perfect DL for our system.

If BB and Scar can find and coach a Trent Brown last year.............why can't they find and coach a Trent Brown this year?

As fans we need to be careful about overestimating the magical abilities of the coaches.

Scar is great but Brown has a ton of talent. Guys that are 6-8, 380 and run like deer don't grow on trees

I forgot to quote the person that was saying that we should dump Cannon.

And Ebner is not cheap. He is a 250 snap guy that costs half the price of the starting RT (+900 snaps).

What up ain't Trey Flowers a DT?? Yeah we Drafted him as a DT in this league Tag price is 13.9Mill.

We are talking about Trey Flowers here and not Von Miller or Khalil Mack...Flowers is not a 17Mill dollar player. Would really feel for the Team or GM who gave him that and be happy for Trey and his family at the same time. That said BB the GM ain't giving Flowers that!

He is not an sack artist but he can line up anywhere, he is young, he has all intangible tools, i would love to lock him up for 15m, but if 17 is the price i would do it. Ppl don't realize that they have a TON of cap and just a few players that are must sign. Patriots are built on ''depth'' guys, but you have to lock the talent that we have. And if you HAVE to lock ONE player, he is the guy.

No, he wasn’t. He was considered to have high potential. He was traded along with a 5th for a 3rd. That equates to late round pick value. He started 2 games at left tackle with the 49ers. Do you have any evidence that supports what’s you wrote?

49ers made three moves last week; they all made the same point

He was their starting RT, so I'm not sure why you're looking at LT starts. Von Miller said that Brown was the best RT in the league and that he consistently gave Miller the toughest problems when they faced off. Brown was a solid RT, not just a JAG. Now, with better coaching, we can see his improvement over the season, starting off as mediocre at a new position, to fairly reliable, to outstanding all through the playoffs at LT. He's young and still trending upward. I want to lock him up long term, and Wynn can play as a swing tackle and T/G reserve. That's premium depth off the bench.

Also, while I strongly believe Wynn can play tackle, if Thuney moves on in FA next year, Wynn would be an attractive candidate to replace him. If Brown leaves, however, then we need to add more depth at the OL.

Flowers at $17M? or brown at $10M?

I'd choose Brown. The alternative is to choose Flowers and draft an OT in the first or second round.

Flowers

Tell me about Wynn's health moving forward, and I'll be better able to answer that question.

At BEST, we will have a player coming back from a rookie injury, with no NFL experience, starting at LT. We would have Karras, Waddle, Ferenz and Croston as backups.

IMO, if we choose not to pay for Brown, we will pay for someone else, perhaps at less than what we might have to pay for Brown. Of course, with Brown, we have a known quality at LT. In addition, IMO, we'd be committed to drafting an OT in the first 2 rounds if Brown doesn't come back.

For me, the answer is Brown. Flowers at $17M AAV at more does NOT float my boat. It is just possible that Belichick might sign or trade for 2 or 3 DL's for $17M a year.

And Ebner is not cheap. He is a 250 snap guy that costs half the price of the starting RT (+900 snaps).

He is an elite ST player that will make 2.7m. He is worth the money. One would think after all those years that people would appreciate ST more around here.

You wanna extend him and reduce the hit to 2m for this year be my guest.

Bill will as always do what is best for our football team. And I don't think paying 17 APY for Flowers is good for our football team.

I think that it would absolutely awesome to have this year's OL, and add Wynn as the first player off the bench at every position but center. He would basically be an upgrade from Waddle.

This is why I reluctantly pick Trent Brown. I don't want to take any chances with protecting the 42 YO GOAT. Let's see Wynn play for a year before giving him the job.

I understand that the DL is a huge priority. I just don't see us signing a DE for $17M AV. Our style of defense values individual DL's less than other teams. We are much more a team defense than other teams.

========
IMHO, if the McCourty's come back and we tender Jones, the total focus on defense will/should be on the DL.

We will bring back Guy, Butler, and Kamalu at DT. I presume that we will sign a fa and use a high draft choice at DT. We could also use a 2nd draft choice.

DE is much more difficult. We bring back Wise, Clayborn (likely gone in camp), Rivers and Davis. MY proposal is to make re-sign Simon a high priority. There is great value there.

I believe that our best bet to get top level players at DE is through a trade or two, and through a draft choice or two. I suppose that we might be able to get a Clayborn level play in free agency at a reasonable price.

It would be a surprise if Flowers doesn’t get a competitive offer by the Pats to stick around. I hope they are working on it right now.

Franchise/transition tag at the very least.

If BB and Scar can find and coach a Trent Brown last year.............why can't they find and coach a Trent Brown this year?

Can they clone someone that large? Sounds kind of scary.

I'd obviously like to have both back but given an option, I'd choose Flowers. He's a playmaker and a difference maker. Without him, our d-line is a huge weakness, especially given the fact that out DT position is up in the air.
