Josh Gordon may be reinstated by the start of Training Camp

And what if Gordon has done everything that's been asked of him, work-wise? What if he works hard, studies hard, and puts out along with everyone else? He goes over the middle recklessly.

Do you just cut him only because he is an addict?

Have you ever thought that playing in the NFL and the pressure that goes with it is part of the problem?

This has been going on for 7 years+

Everyone hopes he can fix his problem i just don't trust him to be on my football team that's all.

Ill take him back gladly. Worst case scenario? He leaves again and we find other ways to win. Im sure there will be a ton of wr’s brought in again anyways so he wont hold anybody back.

We have 12 draft pick, no reason to bring him back.

You're missing the point. It is not a matter of him "only being an addict," it is a matter of being completely unreliable. It has been 7 years since he played a full season and AFAIK not one of those missed games was due to injury. It was all due to suspension/not showing up.

What you have in Gordon is a guy who could, at any time, simply no longer show up. I also feel compelled to point out the Patriots played a heckuva lot better when he was gone...

I feel bad for Gordon, I’m just surprised how someone can beat the **** of their gfs and wives and get less of a suspension vs someone that just smoked weed.
This is a violent sport and players should have the ability to smoke during their off time.

Weed is way less riskier than Alcohol.
Someone smoking weed is less likely to assault someone.

The NBA lets their players do it during offseason and I think the NFL should follow suit.

With the above said I hope they reinstate him before training camp, and I hope BB gives him another opportunity because he will be cheap to retain.

Did he really just get busted for weed, and not something more?

I was talking about a specific post as I interpreted it when I read it. I have not given any opinions on the topic in doing so because it is a topic with far too many layers to be adequately discussed on a forum.

I wish him well in getting his life together. Life is more important than a mere sport, especially when dealing with addiction. He's a person first, product second. That's all I'll say on the matter.

Even then, after so many relapses, family members eventually adopt that attitude.

That said, I'd personally bring him back. But I'd definitely do more at the position to make sure it's adequately stocked with depth if/when he relapses.
You see THAT's the problem with Josh. My initial reaction was to be happy that there would be a chance Gordon could be here for a full season. They I thought, "what is the most important quality Bill looks for in a player?". We all know the answer to that one. DEPENDABILITY Clearly THAT isn't one of Josh's strong points.

I think the receiver group is going to undergo a big overhaul this off season with the likelihood of Gronk retiring, Hogan not being resigned, plus the questions about Dorsett, Patterson, and even Allen being back next season. On the surface Gordon would be a great start in that overhaul, but if you can't count on him to be there in the end, why sign him in the first place.

And while it would be a GREAT story if he actually did make it through the season, do you think Bill is willing to take that risk...AGAIN?

I think he would as long as the depth is adequate at the position to replace his production should he fall off again. Think the 2016 team and how they absorbed losing Gronk. When the depth is lacking and he has to depend on Josh for the long haul? Nope.

Gordon could cost $1-2 million against our cap if we use a lower tender on him. No one will pay us a 3rd or 4th to take him. But his potential is incredible. He would've probably put up 1000+ yards had he been here a little bit longer, and that's even with the adjustment period that he needed to go through. If he can get a real camp with Brady, then we have one of the best duos in the league with Gordon and Edelman.

A couple million is worth the risk of that potential.

By everything he says and did and what you hear from others, he is clearly trying to beat this. The fact the commish sounds reasonable on this tells you that he must really be doing all he can to get better.

So far he has been failing but not due to lack of trying. As long as he has football to look forward to, he has the strongest incentive to keep trying. The moment that stops being a goal, things will probably get much worse for him.

Given how well liked he was by the team and him getting suspended was not a distraction, I see nothing but upside from giving him another chance both from a personal and professional perspective.

I hope he gets another chance with the Pats.

low risk, high reward, tender him to keep his rights in off chance he returns

plan as if he never returns, so if he does its cherry on top

We have 12 draft pick, no reason to bring him back.
There are a LOT of talented BIG receivers and BIG pass catching TEs in this draft. I will never doubt Belichick, but it might be a good move to pick one of each. I would love to see TE Noah Fant and WR Hakeem Butler drafted by the Pats. Two TALL red zone pass catching options for Brady. I'm assuming Hogan and Dorsett will be gone, and though they had some important catches during the season, and are unselfish players, they will go for the money ala Amendola (not offended by that), and I think the Pats won't try to stop them.

So new receivers on the team next year, I'd be shocked if Gordon was one of them.

This is the ultimate double-edged sword. You'd love to have Gordon's talent and teammated-ness, but you are always worried about when the next fall off the wagon will occur, and if your team will be dragged along with it. I would prefer the Pats to draft a stud WR (which they have been historically bad at) or get somebody in free agency or trade that is being under-utilized ala Wes Welker. I guess we'll see come April!

The NBA just doesn’t care at all lol.

I bet we’ll get Emmanuel Sanders, he’s coming off an Achilles injury in December and may be a PUP guy but he’d be perfect.

I think that it is simply silly to believe that one of of lower draft choices will contribute as much as Gordon in 2019. Even contributing for 1/2 a year would be as much as we would expect from a draft choice. Last year, only one draft choice contributed for at least half the year.

God help your your son or daughter if they ever have an addiction problem.

Why dont you go test positive 4 times after your employer has done everything possible to help you and see what happens.

Im sure you will the office by the window and pay increase.

No more Gordon.

His true calling is in the marijuana business.
