Jets being innovative? No this isnt a joke

So what happens when Gase and Williams disagree about an issue on defense? Oh, this is going to be great!

Regarding the Buddy Ryan video, isn’t this essentially what da Bears had in 1985? Ditka running the offense, Ryan running the defense. It worked, they won a Super Bowl with it. Each side hated the other side, but they won.

Leave it to the Jets to try to copy the winning combination from 35 years ago.

Wasnt there another incident where one of the coordinators got in a fight with the other one on the field during a fame? Gilbride comes to mind.

Very innovative. Co-leadership violates the basic tenets of human nature and governing, and beyond that it’s 100x more stupid in professional football with all alphas.

Any research to support the idea that having multiple leaders as opposed to a single figurehead is at odds with "the basic tenets human nature"?

Seems like a fairly strong statement with significant implications. Do you say this based on anecdote, or is there legitimate research to support the claim? I can't say I've ever heard such a thing before.

Humans almost always form hierarchies. They look for leadership and pecking orders. There's quite a bit of organizational and psychological research that supports that idea. That doesn't mean sharing power or having a co-leader is always doomed to failure, but it usually falls apart due to lack of shared vision and egotism.

Add in the Jete stench, and this is going to flame out miserably.

Here is my modest proposal for the Jets based on their recent history.

Since Parcells every Jets coach has had a winning season in his first year.

Therefore....

Going forward fire your coaches after one year! You’ll have nothing but winning seasons. Innovation!

It’ll be like chefs opening pop up restaurants for just a month. Real artisanal football.

And they made 1 super bowl.

The gift of Jete keeps giving.

It's either anecdotal, speculative, unsubstantiated, fallacious, fictitious, misconceived, misguided, nonsensical, trumped-up, or simply utter bull s**t.

What do you think Belichick would be offered by some team if he were a "free agent" head coach candidate tomorrow?

I seriously think some team would offer him $20+ million a year easy to come save their sorry franchise

The coaches salary doesn't go against the cap

he would be offered considerably more than a starting QB

I'm sure there are teams that would throw $40M at him...you're practically guaranteed a SB, that's priceless

I think your numbers are a bit off there, but I agree that he’d be the highest paid HC. As a matter of fact, he likely already is.

Don't plenty of teams that realistically function this way? During games, it isn't terribly uncommon to see the HC calling all the offensive plays while the DC appears to take total charge of the defense. Is the only difference that the Jetz aren't bothering to name an OC?

What possible relevancy does that have to anything? Must mean he's enjoying the off-season -- the best time of year for all things Jete.

No, the head coach establishes philosophy and scheme on both sides of the ball and is final arbiter on decisions involving both. He can delegate the details of implementation to coordinators and assistants while perhaps specializing in on area calling plays in-game on offense or defense, but a team NEEDS a final decision-making authority in the head coach.
