OT-ish: The gambling thread

I went heavy on the Colts, this Houston team is a joke, always have and BoB is a lousy coach.

Next year thoug, everyone will put them as contenders in the AFC and that could beat the Pats, like every year, I dont know where this love come from.

Also got Zeke Elliot over 90 rushing yards. 2/2 yesterday.

Told my buddy that zeke prop was a lock if it was set at under 100 yards. I had 1.5 units on Dallas so I’d didn’t bet it. Great bet by you though

I’d have wasted money buying an extra half point up to +3. That’s how pathetically conservative I am.

Give yourself a pat on the back for your pick.

I won’t even give 2.5 anymore. I’ll just moneyline. See too much crazy crap happen. But if I’m getting 2.5, I’ll buy the half every time if I’m allowed to. It’s the logical play. 3 and 7 are key numbers

Not that I won't do it but I have an aversion to watering down my payout buying points when I am playing with the man's money. Outside of the true degenerates (no fnord not that kind of degenerate) I think most of us have our 'this far and no further' conservative inclinations, they're just different. Mine tend to show themselves in my game selection, if I don't at the very least really like a game I don't bet. I don't require action every game day, never mind every time block. Some weeks may see me with only one and possibly none plays, while others might see me make half a dozen plays. On the flip side, I am far more aggressive when playing with house money, a really good 1:00 window will have often have me looking at the late games with a different eye. Who am I to ignore a warm streak and irritate the gaming gods when they are smiling at me?

As for buying the half on the Seahags bet, my feeling was the Hawks could easily have stolen that one outright thanks to Dallas' tendency to leave the game on the field waiting for a decent opponent to take it and at most the cowgirls weren't going to win by more than a point or 2. If I like the dog that much and have little to no faith in the fave why should I give the man a break by watering down my payout? OFC, truth be told, that attitude is easier to come by when your laying down found money and if I were having a down year I might have bought the half.

I usually stay away from gambling threads on boards because they tend to collect clowns who come in after a game ends to tell you how brilliant they were but aren't here beforehand telling you what the play was ahead of time and why they made it. I've enjoyed this one and wish I'd clicked on it and started participating sooner.

You could always risk more. Depends though, sometimes it’s a lot of extra juice if it’s a key number. When I buy points I just increase the bet though. Of course if you regularly are buying points you need to hit a higher percentage of bets because the extra juice

The O/U @ 43 just doesn't feed the bulldog but the Ravens are now giving up the full home field 3 which def makes the Chargers worth taking.

I'm not real big on buying and as a rule (at least for me) the very uncertainty that drives the nature of a buy precludes my increasing the bet. I completely understand YMMV. I'm just not a big buy guy, it doesn't suit the way I view a game worth betting on. That said, there are some numbers...

I understand that 100 percent

Sir, are you even a gambler right now? This thread is strictly for those who need quality entertainment on the games tomorrow afternoon, money be damned.

Well, good news. I woke up and drove right to the casino and put $200 on the Chargers +3.

And, if I'm being honest it's because when I woke up I heard the name "Joey Bosa" in my head.

Oh Lord help us, now the little voices in fnord's head are making sense to the rest of us. Pretty sure that's one of the signs of the footballpocalypse. Should Lamar Jackson's completion % be > 70%, Deus admit to being wrong or Andy concede an argument after being de-panted it's going to be time to start with acts of contrition and hitting the knees in prayer.

Hearing voices is as valid a method of choosing on whom to bet as anything.

You're preaching to the choir. When I posted about the scary nature of the little voices in your head making sense it wasn't little voices I was concerned with but their location, I slavishly follow my own. Yours on the other hand...hang out in a scary place.

"All the world is crazy save for me & thee. And I am a little unsure about thee"

Took Colts plus 3 at -140 to win 100

2 team teaser Colts plus 8 and Chargers plus 8.5 120 to win 100

Did a 25 dollar parlay to win 200 with Colts plus 2.5 (line dropped to 1.5 couldn’t buy it to 3), cowboys -.5, chargers plus 3, and bears -5.5

Cowboys -.5 -115 to win 100

The moneyline was -125. Snakes

About to lock chargers +3 at -115

I’m gonna take a moment to pat myself on the back and brag. No losers. No point to bet the bears straight now. Buying the eagles to 7.5 and doing it to win 50. Have middle ground to work with on that parlay

Nothing wrong with that provided you don't hurt your arm doing it. :)

I'm feeling pretty good about my weekend as well, + $510 on the weekend and I managed to resist the temptation to play anything on the Bears/Iggles game that I'm getting no vibe on at all.

Could it be the one big really mean voice has all the other little voices bound n gagged?

This is exactly how I feel. I have no good sense of how this game could go.

We may or may not be degenerates when it comes to some things but not feeling a need to hand the man back the money we just took from him solely to get the action means gambling isn't one of them...yet

I'm ridiculously proud of how disciplined I am when it comes to gambling. I never chase losses with more bets, I always pocket some % of the money I win and I budget to account for the money I'm gonna gamble. I try to consider it spending not gambling, if that makes sense. And I try REALLY hard to not spend the money in my head until the final whistle.

One of my main rules is that I require myself to 'have fun' with some of the money I win. Which normally means partaking in legal vices here in the land of legal brothels and legal weed.

You should be proud of it. All the more so for also having the restraint to not immediately push your winnings into more action. I start the season with an amount I am comfortable seeing gone. If/when I win that amount I pocket the original and play the winnings minus 20% that always goes in the Santa Fund and stays there regardless. If/when that continues to pyramid I run it out to the holidays when the Santa Fund gets all but an amount equal to my initial investment to use for playoff betting. I do the same with my annual poker winnings. A share of the Santa Fund always goes to charity and the rest gets spent on Christmas. Usually it gets spread around pretty evenly but this year the bulk of it went towards surprising the bride with a cruise vacation for her to take her terminally ill sister on. Playoff winnings are a different story, that damn green is all mine.
