Post Game Thread - Pats @ Steelers

It all goes back to Bill’s refusal or inability to draft top quality defense in the first round. Leyton Van der Esche was selected 4 picks ahead of Wynn. Why can’t Bill trade up?

Because it takes another team willing to accept Belichick's calls and for them to not want the world. Why is this so hard for people to understand?

The Steelers WRs made some ridiculous catches on perfect throws in tight coverage, not much can be done about that. What bothered me more than anything about yesterday's game were our WR drops in important situations (Edelman and Gordon) and their rookie RB looking like an all-star in the absence of Conner. Also the Pats running game getting more or less stuffed. It was a winnable game for us but Pittsburgh earned it. Just goes to show that more often than not in the NFL, the team that NEEDS to win usually does.

The Pats Running game had 19 carries for 96 yards. That's better than 5YPC. How is that getting stuffed?

The problem I'm seeing is that McDaniels is insisting on taking snaps from Michel and White to give to Burkhead. It's not really allowing those two to build up a rhythm..

You're the guy standing behind gronks performance. Bahahahahha

No. I'm the one who pointed out to you that your assessment was BS and supported it with actual fact. Something that you seem incapable of doing.

You seem to have an excuse for everything when it comes to Bill. Buffalo moved up from 22 to 16 in a trade with Baltimore without “giving up the world.” At 16, both Derwin James and LVE were sitting there. All it takes is Bill to be little aggressive and he could have gotten a franchise defensive player.

Gronk is done. Last week when he didnt fight for that extra inch and it cost us the drive? Remember that?

I'm supposed to be impressed cause he didnt do that on his second catch yesterday?

He disengaged on football after last years superbowl and whatever he did for an off season cost him the entirety of this year in being even just a productive player.

But kick and scream and call me names. That'll work!

And you continue to conflate Excuse with fact.

The trade required Buffalo to give up the 1st pick in the 3rd round to be able to move up 6 spots. The Pats would have had to give up a mid - late 2nd round pick to move up from 24 to 16 based on that trade.

And, like I said, you seem to not understand that teams have to be willing to trade with the Patriots. For all we know, Baltimore called Buffalo and not the Patriots about trading back because they felt that their guy would still be there at 22, but not 24. And, look what happened, Baltimore was clearly willing to trade back a 2nd time to 25 where they too Hayden Hurst.

Also, you ignore what someone else mentioned. If the Pats have LVE rated out the same as Wynn and they felt that Wynn would be there at 24, then they would see no reason to spend draft capital to move up when LT is vitally more important (probably the 2nd most important spot on the team).

I've been following the draft for 20+ years and I laugh when people like you run your mouth and say "Well, Bill should have just traded with so and so" because it just confirms how ignorant you are of the draft, how teams look at trades, and how teams consider the benefits of a trade.

The only one kicking and screaming is you. You're the one lying and claiming people called you names when they haven't. All I did was call you out on your BS and stupidity and provided fact to blow up your garbage.

But, keep making things up.. Just goes to show that what I said about you is true.

You called me stupid. Because I said gronk was done.

Move on. We all left this in yesterday's news.

That’s all nice but all Bill has to do is get a little creative. In retrospect, I think any of us would have given up the Pats 23rd pick and 2nd rounder for a game changer like LVE or Derwin James.

Its a low risk deal. Its basically a 1yr $5.5m deal.
It's Admendola or Dion Lewis vs Clayborn.
We could could of kept Dion and drafted a much better defender than Clayborn or we could of kept Admendola and have a receiver who did very well for us.
Paying for a one game trick pony like Clayborn and drafting a back in the first is not very BB like.
I still hate the moves.
Wd could of traded up for Vandeon Esch traded back up for the linebacker Tenn stole from us then got a middle linebacker and been set.

You need to eliminate the Clayborne-for Amendola or Lewis argument. Two totally different positions and salary structures. Not apples v apples.

Many of us would have taken Evans or V E but again, that has nothing to do with Clayborne.

If we really want to shoot BB for not opening up the Brinks truck is he didn't close on Akiem Hicks. He should have overpaid what CHI offered. With that said they still won the SB.

Agree but it was well documented Hicks wanted to go home you think more money would of changed that.
It surprised me how much Payton screwed up ok evaluating Hicks.

Something tells me if Bill threw a few more bucks his way he would have stayed. Its like that with 99% of players. (Hicks said so). Instead of 2/$10 he should have done 2/12 or 4/30.

Letting Hicks walk was when BB lost me Defensively for Defensive HC how could you let a player of that caliber walk?? BB have said time and time again those guys don't grow on trees we should have went all out and keep Hicks. One thing BB have learned this year is that you can't fill every other position with Jags. A Jag is not going to consistently outplay an above average or good player week to week.

Its befuddling for sure.

They can’t run the ball in the red zone. There’s no pile pushing back on the roster. A good play action game is essential to a good goal line offense. Otherwise, it the same ole bag of tricks operating in a smaller area to make them work.

Malcolm Brown is a huge disapppintment didnt one Patriot player the other day call him the most under rated player on the roster.
I will eat my hat if he gets a big extention.

Part of me wonders since there is 18 years worth of film on the NEP offense and defense their opponents know every possible trick.

IE- coaches arent fooled anymore.

And that's what I hate about BB shopping for the groceries it's good to hold serve when you have alternatives. But sometimes you have to bend if you don't that's the difference between having a good Team and a average one.

Well back then Bill knew he'd have a very good team the next year and he was proven right.

The problem is not extending Hicks potentially hurt him in 2018. Instead of Hicks they had to draft Brown and pay Guy. Cheaper alternatives but not better
