Perception of Time

I once depressed myself by coming to realize that the release date of the "futuristic" Star Wars is now closer to the beginning of WW2 than to the present time. Masochism.
Star Wars is older than the last time France executed somebody via guillotine.

Let's just pretend we're talking about the new releases of Star wars, star trek and lost in space. :D

Lost in Space, Star Trek, Star Wars, seems like everything old is new again...except for us.

No pretending for me, I am fine with it as is. As long as we are breathing, growing older is mandatory but I've always viewed growing up as optional. My extremely patient and long suffering wife would tell you that it is an option I have steadfastly refused to exercise. To make a sports analogy: Sure I'm playing the back nine of life now and it's true both the swing and the clubs aren't quite what they used to be but brother let me tell you; I really know this course now and my short game has never been better.

Here’s a personal one. My step daughter was fourteen when I met her and my wife. She’s now older than I was when we met. It’s not impressive to anyone but it freaks her out when I mention it every few days.

The Ralph Macchio/Pat Morita one blows my mind away too!

And in 13 months, 1990 will be 30 years ago.......

It impresses me, after all what's the point of having kids and grandkids if you don't freak em out every few days??

Good argument but the Sox didn't go to every other ALCS. Had a couple of losing records and missed the playoffs 6 times. But if you want to call them a dynasty I wouldn't say that you're wrong. It's been a great run as well and possibly more on the way.

Yeah those were the “other things” that could have been said as I mentioned. Definitely agree. MLB hasn’t had a ‘dynasty’ in 20 years. I wouldn’t put the Giants in there although my SF friends might argue with me.

Sox are 4 for 4 but they’re never always there at the end like the Pats

We are currently 28 seasons and 290 regular season wins (yes 290) removed from that 1 win season but I still wince when I think of it. I thank the football gods every damn day for Kraft, Belichick and Brady. Although come to think of it I was pretty damn thankful for that one win over the Dolts back when those same gods were urinating the likes of Mowatt and Kiam on us. If anyone had told me then my patience would be rewarded with this golden era the likes of which has never been seen before I'd have asked WTH he was smoking and if he had any of it left.

I remember being stoked when MacPherson led us to a 6-10 record.

Amazing where we are now....

HELL YEAH!!!
(and then it was followed by the 2-14 crash back to Earth)

More than half the people who watched the Jete win their post-season exhibition game vs. Baltimore 50 years ago (both live and on TV) have since died of natural causes.

More than 90% of the Jets fans who watched the Jets beat the Colts in 1969 have since died of embarrassment. The remainder wish they had,

A little OT but something regarding time that I'll always enjoy is that I watched BB and Brady win the first three SBs before my kids were born and win the last two with them. That's just awesome.

Same here. The first three I shared with my Dad. The last two with my son.

The Red Sox won 4 World Series from 2004 - 2018 (15 seasons).

The Patriots won 4 Super Bowls from 2001 - 2014 (14 seasons).

Nobody calls the Red Sox a dynasty but everyone agrees the Pats were / are one. It’s all about how the championships are distributed.

(Obviously there are other things you can say about that but I thought it was interesting ).
It has everything to do with the core of Brady & Belichick having won all five, whereas the only common thread between those Sox teams was Ortiz, who wasn't there for the fourth.

As actual eyewitnesses dwindle, revisionist historians are beginning to question whether the Jete actually won a Super Bowl. Some are calling it a myth, citing Joe Namath's age-related befuddlement.

Namath is the worst QB statwise to get into the HOF...and likely will be until Eli makes it......( and he will because of his name. Had it been Eli Smith, he would not)
