Social Media Sights and Sounds From Day Three Of Patriots Training Camp
David DelPoio / USA TODAY NETWORK
Day Three of Patriots training camp continued with additional red zone drills and special teams work as center David Andrews (PUP) and punter Jake Bailey (Non-football illness) returned to the team.
On offense, it was the tight ends that put together big days, especially Jonnu Smith who looks to have a bounce-back season after a disappointing first year as a Patriot.
During 7-on-7s, Smith caught an impressive touchdown from Mac Jones over safety Kyler Dugger in the back corner of the end zone, much to the delight of the Foxboro faithful. Smith would haul in two more receptions including a second touchdown, also on Dugger.
Henry meanwhile, hauled in a touchdown of his own during 7-on-7s, but from rookie Bailey Zappe, who received extra reps due to an absence from Brian Hoyer.
As for Mac Jones’ overall morning, he completed 16/19 passes but threw his first interception of camp after what appeared to be a miscommunication with Jakobi Meyers on an option route.
Zappe completed 6/9 passes on the day and threw a back corner touchdown to Ty Montgomery, but had two interceptions.
On defense, Jalen Mills, Adrian Phillips, and Justin Bethel recorded interceptions while newly extended Davon Godchaux added a pass deflection at the line of scrimmage.
Rookie Tyquan Thornton was also spotted taking reps on special teams, running as a gunner with Kristian Wilkerson.

Probably just saw Bailey Zappe’s best pass of camp. Dropped a dime on a fade to Ty Montgomery with Shaun Wade in tight coverage.
Zappe also had a good throw to Henry earlier between a few defenders. Did throw an INT as well. #Patriots

Now it’s rookies Cole Strange vs DaMarcus Mitchell, with Jake Julien punting

Tre Nixon and Marcus Jones capped practice with a return challenge …members of the offense and defense lined the field around them.
They fielded high-arcing punts with footballs already in their hands.
Ends in an apparent tie, so Cole Strange steps in … wins it for offense.
