With nine days left before March comes to an end, Jerod Mayo and the Patriots still find themselves with some key needs ahead of next month’s NFL Draft.
While there has been some speculation that the club might be willing to entertain offers for the #3 overall pick, it sounds like New England plans on staying where they are next month.
One of the things that Eliot Wolf told reporters ahead of the Scouting Combine is that he’s a big proponent of keeping homegrown talent in the fold, and to far through free agency, that’s certainly held true.
However, the New England Patriots actually stole the Jaguars’ top quarterback prospect in December when Jacksonville waived former CFL QB Nathan Rourke in an attempt to put him on their practice squad.
The New England Patriots made sure another important piece of their offense will be on the field next season, with some news on Sunday night on receiver Kendrick Bourne seeing the team get a jump on free agency.
Sitting with the number three overall pick has the Patriots in a position to select much of the top-end quarterback talent heading into April’s draft, but any thoughts of moving back could certainly have a massive ripple effect.
ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported over the weekend that the contract discussions with Kendrick Bourne haven’t turned into anything productive just yet, with Reiss saying there haven’t been any “substantial extension talks” to this point.
The Patriots are obviously embarking on a new era following the departure this offseason of Bill Belichick, and the subsequent hiring of Jerod Mayo. That means the old way of doing things is certainly out the window, and it’s going to be interesting to see what that means from a personnel standpoint.
Maye has a prototypical build for a QB at 6’4, 229, possesses a cannon for an arm, and has above-average athleticism, 9 rushing TDs in 2023.
Unless you’d been in that building, you have no idea. And you’ve never been in the building. So you guys are killing him,” Mike Lombardi said
“We can talk about scheme… but if you don’t have players that have a shared vision that are on the same page, then it’s going to be hard”
The Chargers are the 4th worst-rated defenses in terms of covering TEs. And they’ve allowed the third-most yards per game (65) against TEs
“He’s (Dexter Lawrence) a really good player. He’s a major force, a hard guy to block, big, athletic, and blocks kicks. It’s hard to move him
Kayvon Thibodeau and Azeez Ojulari don’t set the edge well in the running game, and that is the area for New England to attack.
But if this had been the Patriots with Brady at QB, this would have been all over the network news.
