Dorsett has 198 yards receiving through 8 games. If Edelman, Hogan, White and Gordon stay healthy (or out of trouble), Dorsett will probably come in around 500 yards over 16 games. If any one of those guys misses time, he becomes the 4th receiver and may pick up the pace towards 1,000 yards.

Patterson isn't really competing with Dorsett for targets. He's more of a big target in traffic - bubble screens and unusual stuff out of the backfield where his size can get him to the next level. Dorsett is more of a four- or five-wide option.

I don't think it's a trust thing with Brady, really. It's just that the other guys get better separation.

Agree for the most part.

Aside from whatever it is that Patterson may be doing, Dorsett is mostly redundant, especially on short-intermediate routes, boundary comebacks, intermediate crossers, etc. This is a good thing because it means there are a couple different roles he's able to back up.

Anyway, with a 79% catch rate on what was the highest number of targets from Brady for the first 3-4 games, I agree that "trust" doesn't seem to be an issue.

However, if everybody else stays healthy, 500 yards seems pretty optimistic. I'd guess 250-350 yds might be more realistic. I'm not going to compare him to Amendola in terms of quality or "clutchness", but - if you look at Dola's production in seasons when everyone else was mostly healthy, those are the kind of numbers he put up as the reliable reserve guy.

Well the Gordon trade wasn't even a remote possibility at the time this thread was created. Throw any prediction out, he's not getting any playing time, which I think is a mistake, should find a way to give him some targets to see what they really have in him. There is not much clarity in the WR landscape.

Ill go with under

Dorsett sucks lost playing time to Gordon in a matter of weeks that should tell ya.

I think the Pats pretty much know what they have in Dorsett by now, and that they like it. It was reported yesterday that, before the trade deadline, the Texans had been trying to persuade the Pats to trade Dorsett. And, it didn't happen. Instead, the Texans traded a 4th-rounder for 30-year-old Thomas and his extravagant cap hits.

I think Dorsett has seen low snap counts the past three games because the Pats have been focused on "breaking in" Gordon as quickly as possible. Gordon has gotten an average of 87% of the snaps over the past three games. Only Edelman and Gronk have averaged more. That's a highly unusual snap percentage for the #3 receiving target, and especially for a "new guy".

In those snaps, Gordon has caught 13 of 22 targets (59%) for 184 yds (14.2 ypc) and 0 TDs.

During the first five games of the season, Dorsett averaged 78% of the offensive snaps, and produced 19 catches on 24 tgts (79%) for 190 yds (10.0 ypc) and 2 TDs.

My guess is that, once the Pats are comfortable with how Gordon is performing and with how he will ultimately fit into the attack schemes, Dorsett will return to the regular rotation, and that the snap-count distribution for Gordon, Hogan and Dorsett will even out quite a bit. That might not happen until after the BYE, though.

Thompkins was better!

Don't see how a WR with a 80% catch rate and 10 YPC sucks. Thompkins didn't have those numbers.

Amendola didn't play much last season but he came up huge during big games and the playoffs. Wouldn't be surprised to see us dust off Dorsett for critical games or the playoffs to catch the other team by surprise, as far as gameplanning.

To me, the most important thing is that Dorsett isn't complaining about riding the pine or making trouble about it.

Hogan has basically solidified himself as the #3 wideout so unless injury strikes, Dorsett will be a (relative) non-factor going forward.

Its still a long second half of the season coming up. I think they work in Dorsett more when possible to give Gordon, Edelman, and Hogan a breather

Like I said Dorsett had a full Offseason plus TC and lost Playing time to Gordon in a matter of weeks. Again what does that tell you?? I know what it tells me Dorsett just isn't that good and the Pats will move on after the season.

We had a chance to trade him to the Texans yesterday. Why didn't we?

He’s a good #2 or three but Gordon can be an elite #1. Gordon surpassing Dorsett in a matter of weeks is more indicative of how smart he is and how much more potential the team sees in him. I’m glad we have him Incase anyone gets dinged up.

I like Dorsett in the redzone more than Hogan. He can get open a lot quicker.

The whole #1, #2, etc. ranking bullsh it aside, Gordon has been an "elite" WR, production-wise, in the past for at least one season. There's a chance that he might return to something approaching to that level of production again.

However, he's not there yet, and he hasn't really "surpassed" Dorsett, or anyone else, in much of anything yet this season besides snap count.

Dorsett's a good #2 or 3??:D more like marginal #4 or 5.

The Texans got a superior player in D. Thomas via a Trade with Denver...what's your point?? Seriously you guys are debating over a guy who has NEVER cracked the 600yds mark in a year: being in the league for Four years. I guess some of us have too much time on our hands.

Hogan's a superior Route runner to Dorsett knows the Offense better too... that's why he's in the 3WR sets more than Dorsett.
