Why do you guys keep going on the GDT, only to say "I'm never going on the GDT again"? What's up?

The GDT is rough. Take it or leave it.

I understand that the GDT is "reactionary" but when posters are calling it a season after the first three and out it's reached a point of enough is enough. The GDT used to be a great companion piece to the games, time to throw the dirt on that.

September preseason. Of last year's final four, none of them started the season 2-0. Being 1-1 isn't inherently any cause to panic, and if I was a bettting man I'd still feel like I was getting free money if I got decent odds on this team to finish with 11+ wins.

Having acknowledged that, there's good reason to be concerned by what we saw today. I'm not worried about the offense: we played the best defense in the league without our WR1, only scoring 20 isn't some egregious sin.

What I am a bit worried about is the defense. The gameplan today was clearly to put the ball in Bortles' hands and make him beat us... and he did beat us. Without Fournette. Blake ****ing Bortles and a bunch of JAGs dropped 30 on this defense, and that should absolutely be raising red flags all over the place. There's clearly a lot of work to be done on that side of the ball, because if they can't handle the Jags minus Fournette then they're clearly not ready to square off against a real team. Hopefully they improve rapidly over the next month.

..And the lack of adjustments. Getting beat is expected sometimes. To continue the same process is frustrating

These gatekeeping threads that we have every season where posters complain about and trying to dictate how other posters are complaining or criticizing the team are one of the more annoying aspects of this forum. Who cares? Ignore them. It is really as easy as the click of a button.

A yes, calling ****ty posters out is gatekeeping now.

It's one thing when we lose and we're all frustrated and debating/discussing what the problems are.

It's another thing when we lose and you feel like you're under siege by opposing fans in your own team's #1 messageboard because they lost a game by 2 scores on the road to a playoff team early in the season in adverse conditions with nearly every bounce going the other team's way.

I've pretty much just accepted that gameday threads are trash and I avoid them in anything resembling a close game. Moderating a GDT to remove the toxic crap without turning it into a cheerleading echo chamber seems like an extremely difficult balance to strike, I don't blame the mods for not wanting to take that on. The end result if they tried would be pretty much the same, plus an entourage of morons claiming that they're being deprived of their free speech or some other dumb **** like that. Better to just accept that GDTs are pretty much a quarantine zone IMO. Let the drunk, and/or emotionally stunted (and I'm not claiming the high ground here, I'm probably both myself) vent there, so that they don't do it everywhere else.

Disagree. There are plenty of level headed threads after the game.

You have .50 seconds to react to a play during the game. Then on to the next play.
It's like hanging with your buddies in the bar "having fun" and letting loose. Come on, can we have one non-expert "I know more than you" thread?
I'm just a working stiff who squeezes in a few hours a week to watch football and shoot the poop here, .
I'm not an expert, blogger, X and O guy.
I love it here and respect all of the above contributors.

But can we just have one place where we can be spontaneous and let off steam? ..And then come to our senses in the "after threads"?

I’m all for the GDT, mostly it’s pointless reading - I myself reflexively posted “Nice” after the Van Noy pick which added nothing of value to anyone’s day or game experience. I wouldn’t want that to be policed out. PS I WOULD SUE FOR LIBEL IF YOU DID. But some of it is a bit ridiculous, declaring players (who are...people, I think?) to be garbage and genuinely hateful stuff. Towards the team whose fan site you have willfully joined!!!!

Anyways, while I don’t necessarily understand that style of fandom, I don’t really think anyone should waste their time trying to fix it. Most of the time it’s more funny than it is annoying. You can always press ignore on someone when that equation changes.
