They weren’t going undefeated. Anyone who thinks they were is living in the teecup ride at Disneyland.

I say make Rowe and JMax inactive next week as they will get torched by The Detroit Wrs and play Jackson and Crossen.

James White was the only player who had a good day.
Love watching him play. Glad to have him on our team and to find a positive from the game.

Not sure if this was posted/covered in the game day thread but there was a weird anomaly I noticed in the 4th quarter with about 7 minutes left on our last scoring drive; Burkhead ran the ball out of bounds and was touched before he got out.

To my understanding, if a player has possession of the ball and goes out of bounds, the clock stops. However, it ran between this play and the next and wasted about a half minute off the clock. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
What you saw has been the rule since 1993.

Before that the clock stopped on all OOB plays until the next snap. When games started getting too long the NFL decided to give us less football instead of fewer commercials and changed the timing rules.

Since 1993 the clock will only stop until the ball is spotted with the exception that in the last 2 minutes of the first half and last 5 minutes of the second half the pre-1993 timing is back in effect.

He's the goat but he didn't play today to that standard. He doesn't have to be the greatest today to be the greatest of all time. He could suck the rest of his career but we can still call him the goat. I think you're confusing that.

No I agree with you. Nothing that he did today or will do in the next 17 weeks will change my opinion about him but that doesn't mean I can't expect more than an average performance from him.

I don't disagree with the view that they lack general physical talent on D, which they've traditionally been able to make work with great coaching. A good coordinator can find physical mismatches, and that was evident tonight. But also yes - there is almost always a clunker, almost always early in the year, the heat was a factor, and we get better as the season progresses. Always. I am not panicking, but this is definitely not the strongest roster we have had. That said, we should be 3-1 when we get Jules back, so......

Grabbing on to the turnovers as if that's all that matters is another great example of how you clown yourself. Do those turnovers excuse the Jaguars players running free across the middle, or getting long TDs out of a relatively short pass?

And you were the one who claimed Brady sucked, because you couldn't just admit that the defense **** itself in some big moments, and had to try changing the narrative. My defending Brady from such a claim on your part is not the same as my saying that he did nothing wrong or that he is above criticism.

I don't think he has much an answer for this, as I already tried to point it out.

What's frustrating, and worrying, is that often times the defense did force a 3rd and med/long - and same with last year - only to just blow it. This happens very often.

Is that a talent issue or a coaching/mentality issue? If you can get to 3rd and 9, 3rd and 6 a decent amount of times, why can't you shut it out on that 3rd down?

Deja Vu. The team's stinker and the response of this board to said stinker.

Unfortunately, the Pats will finish 12-4 or god forbid, 11-5. Things will be OK. And I will continue to believe that until it is not OK (for me that will come in January).

They will make the playoffs. Is this defense good enough? They failed the first test. Can’t wait to see how they against the chiefs and the packers.

Find a single post from me claiming the defense played.well. I dare you.

Until then have fun moving the goal posts.

Well if you where here last year everyone was hyping the fact about the PPG. They where not taking into account how they made average QBs look great. I wanna see the defense actually keep teams out of the red zone. That would show improvement.
I was here last year and many years before that, there is absolutely nothing I can do or say that will influence BB or the Patriots. I root for them and wish forr the best. If you think ranting on a MB is helpful, knock yourself out

Oh.....and I strongly disagree with not going for it on 4th and a foot after the challenge, and think they should have onside kicked from BOTH of the 2nd half 50 yard line kicks. Worst case they get the ball between the 35 and 40.

The score last week did not indicate how good we played ;)

The score this week did not indicate how bad we played ;(

And as bad as they played, a play or two here or there, a first down or two more and they could of stole a game on the road with this ugly performance.

I’m not sweating this one, chaulk it up as a loss and move on.

Hilarious post. A keeper. Only .. i have a feeling i've read it before..

Pats are 12-4 on average . also AFC Champions on average with that “bunch of marginal talent“.. so the reality would argue its not that tough to win :)

How many Super Bowls have the Pats won with garbage front 7 like they have this year? It's very difficult to win it all with garbage up front.

Front 7 play usually makes the difference between winning and being one of the 31 losers at the end of Super Bowl Sunday

This team has enough talent (Brady) to win plenty of games in the regular season but none of that means anything if you don't bring home the trophy

How many Super Bowl winners have had garbage front 7 over the past 30 years?

Coverage in the secondary needs to be MUCH tighter.

Why would anyone think different, this is the same defense that was torched by Foles, minus

Butler oh wait....

Well, after putting them out of the game for 2.5 quarters, that is.

The context here is that Bortles played one of the best games of his life in the first half. There was not a single really bad pass.

I thought Michel looked okay. The holes weren't there and the Patriots were running in some odd situations. He felt good enough that he should look better in better situations. I still think a running back was a dumb thing to spend a high draft pick on (and I desperately miss Wynn) but he looked good enough.

Honestly the only good D in the last decade BB fielded was in 2014 and it's also the reason why the Jags are such a match up nightmare. Over the last few years how many bum qbs have looked amazing against the Pats. Bortles is clearly the weak link in that team and that weak link just destroyed the Pats.

Let's face it. The lack of talent on D is because right now this team can't draft defensive talent in the high-middle rounds. Just look at the last 4 drafts. From the round the only really good starter is Trey Flowers (Wise flashed too). Busts include Easley, Grissom, Richards, Cyrus Jones ...

I hope the coaching staff can find a way to make this D atleast average. Thats all that Brady needs, but honestly if this Brady had the early BB era defenses he would have atleast 2-3 rings more and a perfect season.

That happened with Nick Foles too. The Patriots have let mediocre passers have the games of their lives pretty damn often. I think it's a lack of pass rush. Bortles just had a completely clean pocket and the secondary was letting guys get open across the middle on every play.

Jacksonville needs to prove it by winning a Super Bowl or stopping us from getting to one, but they look like an AFC power house in the making.

..... or we just sucked bad

It’s only week two but a few teams look like they could compete in a more open AFC this year
