Could the Patriots trade Malcom Brown to Lions?

I cannot hold a candle to you.
At least you finally recognize that. Maybe now you can bloviate less and learn something.

“Shouldn’t the pats be working on their best DTs contract”
You just made yourself look stupid, again.

Danny Shelton is the Pats best DT.

And, he will prove that this year and be rewarded by NE.

In regards to stupid, Im glad the Pats dont listen to your dumb ideas.

Youre wrong 100% of the time.

Like I said, Brown is a dead man walking now that you have put your curse on him.

Just like Patterson is a slot receiver?

Personal anecdotes, notes and thoughts from Patriots’ road trip to Charlotte

9. I don’t know if the Lions would consider it, but receiver Golden Tate is the type of trade target I’d inquire about for the Patriots. Playing fantasy GM, a package of defensive tackle Malcom Brown and linebacker Elandon Roberts would be something I’d float out there to see if there was a bite. Something tells me Lions fans would tell me I’m not realistic, even though Tate is entering the final year of his contract and the Patriots might have to do some cap maneuvering to bring him on.

We have a ton of draft capital. We do not need to move players.

Funny how Malcolm Brown is this board’s new whipping boy.

No, fix that damn run defense.

Also, Valentine looks toast, we shouldn't enter the season with Shelton as our only fatty up front.

Fact?

Ummm ... define "play harder".

Surely, this isn't the first you've heard of players going harder in a contract year than they do the year after?

Let's face it, the 2006 Patriots beat the Colts in the AFCCG with Deion Branch.

It’s actually been that way for a little while, now. I could be wrong, but I think it really started to ramp up at the beginning of last season. There was a point where I thought that some were being too hard on him, but it’s quite possible that my assessment may have been off, too. We’ll know the answer in the coming weeks/months.

Maybe there is hope for the run defense after all.

Brown is a bust. I told you that long ago.

Relative.

As a first round pick coming from this organization, could argue bust. Outside of injured ones, few first round picks have been more “meh”. Maybe Maroney and Graham.

If Brown were a mid-round pick, we would be applauding the team for finding a decent to good starter.

Definitely not a great pick, which we should have known because Kiper and company said they got the steal of the draft, always meaning this will be a huge disappointment.

It's an endlessly repeated, simplistic media assertion that's parroted by fans -- "common wisdom/rule of thumb" that seems logical and, thus, goes unquestioned. That doesn't make it fact.

With "play harder" being undefinable, much less quantifiable, the assertion remains an untestable hypothesis - on a par with, "Every time I wash my car, it rains."

Let's face it, the 2006 Patriots beat the Colts in the AFCCG with Deion Branch.

And that's an assertion that's impossible to prove. Furthermore, the Pats didn't have Branch for that game because Branch himself wanted out. Instead of "playing harder" in his contract year, he held out - demanding a bigger contract extension or a trade.

Has Mike Reiss always had this WordPress blog site or is this something new? I’d love to read stuff like this every week.

He's had some kind of blog website for several years, AFAIK. I reached out to him through that site a few years ago and had a couple brief email conversations with him.

Depends on the expectations. Fan expectations may differ from those of the Pats.

Not to mention the fact that, had Brown been selected one pick later, he'd have been a 2nd-rounder.

The Bedard article is one of those throw crap at the walls and see if anything sticks, why would you trade Brown for someone who may or may not pick up our system??.. If you keep him and he moves on next year you get a Comp pick??

Brown plays a position that is hard to evaluate as a fan, as it does not lend itself to gaudy statistics or any statistical evidence at all...

Bedard et al need to justify their existence..

This.

Fans just seem to expect that a DT taken at #32 (the FIRST ROUND!) should be a more dynamic pressure guy - more like Aaron Donald, if not his equivalent. Whereas a guy like Brown - a gap-plugger who has steadily averaged 4+ tackles per game each year for three years - can be easily had in the 2nd round, (say, pick #33) or later.

If first round picks aren't somehow "magical", then they're "busts".

Not like Maroney was a top flight RB.

Another one of your pearls of wisdom.
Which you know I never said.
You have to go back 7 years and then lie. Very telling.
