It just blows my mind how someone can properly diagnose an injury from the couch.

Reminds of 2016. My cousin is a first assist in orthopedic surgery and in week 2, we were at one of the doctor's house, who's also in our FFL. 3 orthopedic surgeons there, plus my cousin. Jimmy G goes down hard on the shoulder. Everybody: "Yep, that's a ac joint sprain right there."

People were texting me wondering if Jimmy was ok. "Ummmmmm.....probably not."

It is possible Wynn wouldn't see the field much this year (but it is also likely he would going on OL injury history). The point is Pats just lost a great backup at 4 OL positions which is a treasure in itself in this sport that would very likely also save 1 roster spot with his quality and versatility. And Wynn lost one whole everlasting footbal season on the field with Dante. Big loss altogether..

Hopefully he bounces back Rivers way.. Thats the only comfort at the moment.

Difference was Easley was a first-rounder, and arguably the worst of Belichick's Patriots career.

Mitchell was a gamble that unfortunately didn't pay off.

In a manner of speaking, the big mistake Belichick made was trading for James O'Shaughnessy last year:

• O'Shaughnessy didn't make the roster and was claimed by the Jaguars.
• O'Shaughnessy injured Mitchell in the PS, costing him all of last year.
• Then the Pats felt they needed more help at WR, which led to Brisket getting traded for Dorsett.

Croston did not play last night . even when John went out to injury Waddle went back in from 1st unit for the last part of the game. Very curious since no inj news about him was mentioned. He was also outplayed by Tobin and John in the first game . and played more guard this preseason..

Well the injury opens up a roster spot for someone. Maybe we wait to see the cuts and maybe Dante has his eyes on someone who knows.

This isn’t 1988. Players recover from torn ACLs. He’s overall been a very promising player, so I still have high hopes that he’ll be an impact player for us in the long run.

He's still young so he has as good a chance as any to come back full-strength from an Achilles, but it will take time. Then again, Vince weighs 400 lbs. and had half the recovery time in his 30s and was ready to go in training camp and played well when he came back, so who knows. HGH is a hell of a drug.

Bill has taken risk with players before but it’s absurd to think he was wrong in taking wynn. The guy was pretty much healthy his college career. The Michel pick’s a different story. Teams stayed away because of that bone on bone knee condition.

Thanks for that. I remember reading an article once showing how torn Achilles have one of the worst success rates in the NFL - that it was hard enough to come back from at all, and those who do were more often than not less effective than previously. And that linemen have it the worst. Glad to see there's been at least one success story.

That article was all over the place when Wilfork tore his, but the biggest flaw was that it was data from injuries occurring from 1997 to 2002. I don’t know what the data looks like now, but it can’t possibly be nearly that grim anymore.

He was pick #29. He was drafted 13 slots before where we took Gronk. Those 13 slots difference is the same draft slot value difference as #22 vs #29.

This is not a top 15 pick we are talking about which might give you a blue chipper that is supposed to turn into a AP player. Easley had that blue chip burst and could have been quite something. It didnt work out and it was a bad pick. But definitely not the worst pick of BBs tenure.

I also dont understand how signing O Shaughnessy makes BB responsible for an injured Mitchell. Is Kraft at fault as well because he gave BB the money to acquire him?

Similarly as beat guys have reported Brisett was on the track to get cut last year. His trade has nothing to do with MM getting injured. Check QuickSlants around the draft when they were talking QB prospects for that nugget.

You're absolutely right. Here it is:

Relatively small sample, but basically 2/3 of players came back at all, and most aren't as effective. They're judging effectiveness by games played and by certain "power" traits. BUT the big thing that sticks out to me is that the average age of those participants in the data was 29. Interesting question is how many 30-31-32 year olds are as effective as they were at age 29 in the general NFL population -- i.e., I'm not seeing anything about a control group here.

More interestingly (to me) and positively, there's a more recent study here:

I'm not seeing the source so there could still be some issues. Big change, though is that while the overall return rate is only slightly higher (73%), they did do a control group analysis and found that for every position except linebacker, they couldn't find any proof that it leads to less effectiveness for those that do return.

Disgraceful that profits(luxury boxes) and some engineering firm from KCs decision to orient the stadium differently from old Foxboro stadium caused grass not to grow. The height of Gillette paired with the orientation does not allow enough sunlight into the stadium. Now the turf ruins career after career.
