Not a good sign that McCourty is behind Rowe on depth chart.

Although I’m not as high on Rowe as many others, I agree with you that McC isn’t a lock to make the team like all of the chatter suggested for the past several months. That said, it’s early yet, and he does have experience. Time will tell whether Belichick goes with a younger, cheaper player or not.
I was one of Jason supporters because in Tennessee and Cleveland he was a good CB. I was glad he joined the Pats. Now I am not so sure he will survive. On the other hand it is a good sign when the young are good enough to push a veteran to get a starter job.

Has there been any news about the Joneses -- Cyrus and Jonathan?

I haven't got great hopes for either of them this season, but it would be very nice to be proved wrong.

Chatham's ball-washing gets more pronounced every year. Comparing Shelton's situation to Chandler Jones' and Collins'...yeah right.
Between that and his "non-football" comments, no wonder I have him removed from the twitter feed sidebar.

Couldn't agree more cap... Chatham going out on limb there which is a deceptive broken branch.
I like Chatham, I listen to his podcast. But he’s off comparing the situations to Collins and Jones.

Yep Coach cap: said the same thing initially.

Aren’t they both in pup?

I hope that's the new CB depth chart because we don't ever want to get to Dmac there. Kinda like getting to Richards at Safety.

Ummmm... what.

Probably something like this;

How so ?

Both were players that would have not gotten a contract extension with the team that drafted them and got traded ahead of time while still on a rookie contract. How is this any different from Shelton ? Note that this is the comparison Chatham made. He didn't say that Shelton had shown anything close to those two in his rookie deal.

Jones is actually pretty much exactly the same situation as Shelton. Not a fit on a market contract for our defense and so he was moved.

Well, the relevant question is why. Is Brown currently behind Guy on the depth chart because Guy is playing really well, or Brown isn’t playing at the top level the team hoped?

Regardless, he is being judged as a 1st round pick and the hope with any of them is that they wouldn’t be in the 2nd grouping to start training camp in year 4. Doesn’t mean he can’t still help the team, just means he’s not the star player we hope for as a 1st rounder. As a 1st rounder he’s not the bust that Easley was, but he falls into the next tier of Maroney, Meriweather and Watson. Useful but not stars, and guys who never got a 2nd contract here.

Realistically if you can get someone who played in 45/48 games and started 37 of them at pick 32 it is like you say an "ok" pick. I get that people like to throw around the term first round pick but I think we can all agree that there is a difference whether you get picked in the top 10 where you essentially have to turn into an impact player or if you get picked towards the end of the first round. Especially as interior DL player. Rare beasts.

Why, you wanted Matthews to miss a longer amount ? This is actually great news. Could’ve been a lot worse

I'm just bummed that Matthews is going to miss ANY time. With the first pre-season contest only 10 days away, even "a few days" may represent at least a bit of a setback. At this point, it appears that he'll likely miss tomorrow night, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Of course, how many total practice sessions he actually misses will depend on when the Pats begin simulating a normal-routine, "week leading up to the game" meeting and practice schedule.

There seems to be very little appreciation for solid, consistent, grinders who do their jobs if they're picked "in the first round". Fans seem to want constant and visibly dynamic play from anyone picked at that magic number of 32 or earlier, even if the system and scheme requires the grinder types more.

The fact is that there are several DTs around the league who haven't been nearly as consistently productive over the past three seasons as Brown has, but who are already making significantly more than the $7.2M that Brown would've been on his 5th-year option.

JFC The Chargers need to cancel TC before anyone else gets hurt.
