We Tried To Move Up From 23

I just cannot believe they wanted to trade up for a center. Andrews is limited, but could a rookie be that much better?

Third the patriots planting that rumor to make Matty p and Quinn look good in a pick that people questioned seems pretty likely.
So let me understand your logic...
BB pumped Patricia's tires after the draft by leaking to the press how HE (BB) FAILED to successfully move up in the draft to secure a player that we can only infer would be a better player than the current center on the roster and better than the guy NE drafted at 23.
BB: "I love the press so much so let me help them out. I failed, my current center who I extended through 2020 just last year sucks, and my OL draft pick was not our first choice.......but Matty P did awesome"
The gallons of Pats Kool Aid you guzzle have caused serious damage

No. Belichick got who he wanted. He may have floated a rumor about being interested in the guy Detroit picked because rumors about that stuff happen all the tine.
We are better with the guy we got.

@AndrewBrandt: From podcast with Jack Mills, agent for @bakermayfield: "We knew that the Jets at 3 was the bottom line. We had another team that said 'you may get a big surprise on draft day at number two if he is available.' And that team was... the Patriots": Andrew Brandt |

Holy hell! This board would have went into absolute melt down mode! Lol.

I’m really glad they didn’t get Mayfield.

I’m really glad they didn’t get Mayfield.

I'm very excited about Wynn and Michel in this offense. But Bill has never done anything like that trade up before (not that he's needed a franchise QB in a while). If this is true, they must've really loved him. They traded down so much in this draft, they were clearly down on the talent overall.

I’m sure there will be more opportunities in the next couple of years to trade up for TB12’s successor. Jake Fromm or Shea Patterson are a couple of names I wouldn’t mind in Foxborough.

Sounds to me like Belichick had to tell a white lie in order to get a meeting with the guy he thought the Jets would pick. If Belichick doesn’t hint at moving up to 2, then Mayfield’s agent probably declines the meeting again.

Every team that has a "suspicious" pick immediately claims that the Patriots were trying to get the guy.

That's some flattery to BB and his crew, isn't it?

Pats trade up to #2 to get Mayfield? I don't see it. But then, i had Butler making the big stop with one of his patented, unbreakable tackles in the Superbowl, so what do I know?

Makes you wonder: if they wanted Ragnow so bad, maybe they really do want Wynn to play inside after all?

Maybe. Alternative thinking was that even though ragnow played inside in college he has the measurables and athleticism to move to tackle.

If its true that the Pats had Mayfield evaluated that highly, and not the other QB's, then the best news here is that the Jests didn't get the QB the Pats valued well above the others.

IMHO, college IOLs don't become top LT's in the NFL.

We could have moved up to get a guy like Edmunds without giving up much. We needed a guy like that at LB.

Maybe we could have or maybe we had no one to trade with. Or BB just didn't see the value/fit. He chose to upgrade the OL and add a dynamic weapon to the RB group instead. I got no complaints with the decision.

Forget about moving up for a qb or center, from what I was reading , I wish we could have moved up to draft Roquan Smith, sounds like he would have been a perfect fit here.
