This is a great discussion to have, good thread.

Wynn will be starting Day 1. He's already better than both guards we have & the best players play on this team. Gotta run but just throwing a few projections out there ...

Cannon Wynn Thuney Mason Brown

Wynn Thuney Andrews Mason Cannon

Just hope everyone is healthy through out the season, post-season, SB appearance..

Can you explain to me what exactly would be the difference if he were 6'4" compared to 6'2" ? And please make it not a one liner but a short explanation what it is that gives you nightmares about those 2 inches difference.

I am honestly curious.

If any lineman cant touch their adversary with their hands. he is defeated. In a highly competitive competition, small differences are key. Being 2-3 inches smaller (on avg) than the adversary, is what can be called "Natural deficiency".

Plenty of arguments can be made against it, but here is another point of mine:

DEs and T are the tallest people on their teams, on avg.
But I want to divert your attention to the spread. First, the DEs have an enormous spread, which is actually good, cause it means that there are opponents that theoretically are on equal terms on said deficiency. (It is not possible to say how relevant this actually is, based on this and without all the data)

Whatever, the thing that is really interesting is that Tackles have a much lower Spread. In fact, based on this graph and with a ruler, you can clearly see there isn't a single point in the sample at 6'2''.

So, for him to be a decent Tackle, he is already an Anomaly. For him to be an excellent Tackle, Statistically, Bill has made a Genius-level type sort of thing

I think they give Wynn a shot at LT and he shows up well there one day 1 of camp and never gives the stop up. They will try a number of combinations but this will be a rare case of a rookie being a day 1 starter to protect your franchise QB.

Cannon bounces back and Trent Brown just becomes a high end up back.

And there's ****ING ANDREWS. Epitome of mediocrity. I'll grant that he is smart as heck (the fact that he is a cap'n proves it), but ****ing geezus he can't v1 against anyone for more than 1s. Please upgrade him

Someone posted a link to a story about how Andrews had an unexpectedly good 2018 season. You may be working with old information.

So your issue is not his size but the correlated arm length and wingspan. Correct?

Er, i didn't say that in a single line... I used the hands and reach for an example, not point

To stir the pot a bit for Wynn at LT, I believe Jason Peters (an all pro LT) is short as well

.

I watched Wynn a ton last year and he is a legit left tackle. I am not concerned about his size or lack thereof.

In my mind, he and Garcia are battling for the left tackle job and I would not be surprised if Garcia opens the year on the pup.

At right tackle, cannon is going to start if healthy. But at the end of the day, cannon is a banana that is injures easily and we can not count on him for 19 games next year. Which is why we have brown.

We should start the year with 8 o line guys on the 53.

Wynn
Thuney
Andrews
Mason
Cannon
Karras
Brown
Croston

Garcia starts on the pup.

I'm just slotting out of the gate. They'd start off with last year's theoretical starting lineup, but with Brown in for Solder. Players can rise or fall on their own from there. As of this moment, I expect Wynn to compete for game snaps at either OT or LG. Before the Brown trade, I had Wynn penciled in as the starting LT.

We can start with Brown at LT or start with Wynn. IMHO, both will be given every opportunity at every practice and in the pre-season. I haven't a clue who will win this battle. However, for me, one will be the starting LT and the other will be the swing OT.

I would think that Brown is an upgrade/replacement for Waddle. As with Waddle, he is now the expected starter unless a rookie or Garcia.

ROSTER SPOTS (8-9)

LOCKS (5)
Last season's starters plus Wynn will make the team.

I will also presume that Wynn will be active. If he doesn't start, he would be able to backup at OG and OT. I would note that Thuney is probably considered a backup center. If not, we need one from the rest.
========================
THE TWO ADDITIONAL ACTIVES

1) We need a backup OT or a starter in Wynn doesn't start. Candidates include Brown, Waddle, Garcia and Tobin. [my WAG is Brown for now]

2) Our backup IOL needs to cover center, unless we want to move Thuney when there is an injury. [My WAG is Karras for now].
=========================
INACTIVE BACKUPS (yes a 6th OL is sometimes active in place of a 3rd blocking TE)
I'm fine with OJ's picks of Croston and Garcia 9with Garcia possible on PUP.

Now that they've brought in Brown, I chose to clear the board for Wynn, until we see where the team puts him in camp.

If Brown can make the switch to LT, that allows the team to move Wynn to guard, if they think Garcia will be a legit player by next year.

Massive fan of our possible O-Line dominance that could happen! We can give Brady a running game he has rarely had and when the sad time comes for Brady to retire we could have a very experienced line which can look after the next QB. I also feel it will give us a better chance of being able to control the clock a lot better as well!

Can we just imagine a dominate O-Line that provides a power running style to go along with Brady?! Would be brilliant to see!

Our O-Line with Allen and Gronk in, that could be a very hard line to stop in the running game!

Cannot wait to see what happens!

Not likely
Wynn is a better all around player than both Mason & Thuney. 100% And he'll be starting day 1.

So much farther along than both those two coming out in both pass pro & isn't far behind Shaq in the run game. His mental processing is quicker.

Wynn was a top 10 player on many boards & the top OL'm right behind Nelson. Who will be an absolute nightmare more defenders the next 8-10 years.
