Patriots trade for 49er's OT Trent Brown

Can some smart folks give me the most likely OL(s) based on who we now have?

*rolling dice*

Left to right: Cannon-Wynn-Thuney-Mason-Brown

Backups Karras/Andrews/Garcia/Waddle or Jelks (if he's back fully)

Fast forward 5 years from now the people *****ing about Wynn are going to be *****ing that we aren't paying him to stay.

He's gonna be a guard just like Mason. The question will be how much better will he be than Mason.

Read the first couple pages. I'm a bit confused by this as well. Any shot Mason gets moved?

I have a hard time believing Bill took a guard to sit the bench for a year waiting for Mason to depart.

If we're taking someone in the first to sit the bench, might as well have been a QB.

Count me in the group surprised more resources in the draft haven't been spent on D. I know Bill likes vets but it's hard to find young difference makers in free agency. You need to find some in the draft. We also still need a younger QB. I would've expected 2 or 3 defenders and a QB in the first 3 rounds. Not 1 defender, 1 QB or 2 defenders no QB.

In Bill we Trust, but certainly a little confusing on the surface.

We are really stocking up the offense:

OUT: Cooks, Solder, Lewis, and Amendola.

IN: Wynn, Michel, Brown, Hill, and Patterson.

Not so crazy about this trade, but expected us to flip one of our 2nd/3rds for picks between the 4th-6th rounds. And this guy apparently is pretty good...just not crazy about him having surgery and being on the final year of his deal...then again...we gave up about 50-60 slots in the draft...not too bad..and it is never a bad thing to over stock in the trenches.

Matthews?

We know Brown can play RT and play it at a high level, but I'm curious if he has ever played LT. I apologize if this has already been asked.

his issue has been conditioning more than anything else. hence why SF was trying to unload him. just wasn’t in shape at OTAs.

I like the move. 95 to 143 is a good drop but at least now i feel good about the OT situation for next year. Between Wynn, Brown and Garcia it should be fine.

The Pats so far have used 3 picks on offense and 0 on defense. Now just for laughs watch them take a TE and QB in the 2nd round.

First defensive pick will be 143

Because I live on the West Coast and my friend is a die hard 9ers fan, I watch a lot 9ers games. Trent Brown is a beast and Von Miller wasn't just saying "he's the best tackle in the game" to be nice. He was also graded out along with Cannon as one of the best RT's in the game. This guy is very powerful and can throw pass rushers around like rag dolls. My friend hated the ND OT pick last night because they have Brown and Staley. However, the only knock on Brown is his conditioning. If the Pats can get Brown's conditioning down, this could be a really great trade for the Pats. And I'm not worried about the 3rd round pick as the Pats could get this back with a simple trade down with the 9ers 2nd round pick and get that 3rd rounder back.

Don’t like giving up a 3rd, who needs a 5th back. Or get a 4th back with him. Shoulda just given up a 6 straight up. Not thrilled with this deal. SF gives up on the guy because he can’t keep in shape. So they were gonna dump him anyway.

How long before he actually practices in training camp because he can’t pass the conditioning tests.

That being said, Von Miller seems to think this guy might be the best RT in football. So there’s that.

“He’s the best right tackle in the National Football League,” Miller said Wednesday after the first of two joint practices with the 49ers. “And he may even be a top-five tackle, period, in the National Football League. There’s not another tackle who’s that tall, that big and can move the way he moves.”
Came in here to post the Von Miller quote myself. I believe Miller has issued praise for Brown on more than one occasion, too.

Bill has given us the reason for us on multiple occasions.
1. Most teams only have one good offensive tackle, and cope with that. He's said, "To have two good ones is an unusual situation."
2. He's also pointed out that he likes to create competition for camp, in all positions. He's creating competition at one of the most important positions, one which just had an incumbent leave.
