31 Overall Pick Sony Michel

Dude I was sweating & my heart was jumping but it wasn't in the cards. No worries, I honestly couldn't be happier. Wynn was a top 8 overall player for me and Michel was my 6th best RB & just perfect for our offense.

Anyone unhappy about defense, well we have 3 more top 100 picks so Im just not that mad about that.

As you know Im not on big D needs wagon . plenty of opportunities left.

Sorry they missed on two amazing PT corners for the future . also from economical point . and while I was late on Wynn wagon Sony was my guy for a year and I believe he improved a lot in between so he deserves this pick. As you know in my pre-draft rant i said drafting a starting RB should not be a surprise yet I am still surprised they used a 5y contract on a RB.

Always happy to see BB going in opposite direction of every expectation . even when you expect the opposite..;)

This is just how the draft fell. Both Vander Esch and Evans were gone by the time we got to pick. So we filled a huge hole with Wynn. And then it looked like BB felt the value in taking a homerun threat 3-down RB at the end of the 1st. The dude averaged 7.9 yards per carry over the course of an entire season!

Fret not. 3 more top 100 picks on day 2. And maybe we find some sleepers on day 3.
I like Michel a lot. But Reiss tip of the pick made me think it was Lorenzo Carter and I really liked that. Hope he’s available at 43.

Adding Michel, I wonder how much longer Gillislee will be a Patriot. He was a disappointment last year and sat at the bottom of the RB depth chart. BB might have decided to go back to a dominant starting RB and away from the RBBC when he saw how Fournette gashed our D in the playoffs (lets face it, our D got gashed a lot). Some Pats fans may have reminders of the last time we drafted a RB this high (Maroney), but I have a good feeling about Michel. This probably means that Lauletta or Falk may be the QB the Pats draft. Still time to pick up one or two solid defensive players, although I suspect BB might trade our first 2nd round pick to acquire additional choices. Day 2 should be interesting.

Issue with a top running game is that it can be nearly entirely taken out by extraordinarily D-line play, or simply a bad day by the O-line. Top passing games don't have as many limitations.
Yeah, I don’t see a lot of teams next saying we’re going put 8 men in the box and make Brady throw it to win

Also what makes this back special is that he really is a threat on all 3 downs. Run, throw, block. And never underestimate the importance the Pats place on a third down back being able to block as well as catch. Even good pass catching backs do not see the field on third down if they can’t pass block on a BB team. He can pass block. He can play here and make the running game and passing game better.

To anyone criticising this pick because they wanted the pick to be on defense, I get it. The SB loss still stings and you wanted a defense guy with this pick but just look back at the 2012 1st round. BB saw 2 exceptional players and even traded up and both played a huge part in the Pats beating the Seahawks in SB49. It just shows me that this class is either exceptionally deep at some D positions or that there just weren't guys BB saw as that good.

Either way he looks like a perfect fit and if he ends up as our Kamara, this O will be much more unstoppable than "just" adding a deep threat last year

The argument is there that our 2018 offense is our most balanced ever. Great OL, three deep at RB, 3-4 deep at WR, the GOAT & Gronk.

Not a fan of the Michel pick value wise (really liked the Wynn pick). If we get an 80% Alvin Kamara that’s certainly a nice weapon.

We need some defenders now....and hope Brady plays atleast 2 more years.

Here’s my concern: I like the players selected, but I’m not sure how much they immediately make us better. (unless Michel becomes Kamara 2.0)

We remain a loaded offense, with a mediocre defense that’ll allow middling QB’s to pick us apart in the big games. Trusting HT to be healthy is risky. Are we hoping that Rivers is actually really good? Meh, doubtful. Still have a weak pass rush. There’s some decent prospects left, but we’ll probably just trade down.

Was just hoping that we’d balance out the team a bit more.. but I guess we’ll have to hope we can put up 40 against a team like Philly again.
Joe, how can you call the Pats a poor pass rushing team when they were 7th ((IIRC) in the league in sacks?? They had a poor pass rushing GAME in the superbowl, but the great Eagle DL wasn't any better.

Listen I would have been a bit happier if they had gone with Landry as a situational pass rusher at 31 but Landry isn't going to be an "edge setter" So I can see why Bill passed on him.

I can only guess that Bill had Michel graded a LOT higher than what was available at that point and going forward.

I guess the offense has improved, but the offense was going to be good if we hadn't drafted a single offensive player, let alone 2 in the first round. And as I mentioned in my comments on the Wynn pick, I would have thought they could have traded down a few picks to a team that wanted Jackson and still gotten Michel.

Any thoughts about his knee injury (ACL in high shcool)? Did I just hear Curran say it was bone on bone or was that the merlot speaking?

I don't think Michel affects Gillislee that much; no more than Lewis did last year. I think Hunter affects Gillislee a ton; it's either/or as they both play the role of the heavy yardage guy. And it could even be neither if an UDFA performs well or they think Burkhead could fill that role.

I love the players no doubt. Michel could be really really good.

But as for the pass rush, I don’t buy that sack stat. Most of those were piled up against weak o-lines. We played a damn good line against Philly and it showed that we didn’t have the talent to match it. I just that wish we’d invest more talent wise in that position instead of a bunch of mid round misfits.

Having keen insight into the mind of B Squared....allow me to explain what is about to happen:
Now that BB has filled 2 gaping holes on offense, he will carpet bomb the defensive ranks of the draft.....searching for the fundamentally sound (for depth) and also the freakish athletes with warts, whether it be due to injury or tweener measurables that don't fit the traditional mold. I expect Bill to double up on at least two positions on defense ...LB being one positional grouping.
I also expect the living legend to trade down at least once to secure more carpet bombing ammo.
My prediction: 3 O pieces, 6 D pieces.
Question: Will BB be bold enough to target UCF's Griffin? Since BB values fundamentals, I doubt it....but.....lets wait and see.

Looks fast and hard to bring down. That's good.

He's also a fumbler. That's bad. Very bad.

I thought he was a pipe dream. I honestly felt BB would bypass Leveon Bell offensive talent for some second coming of Jordan Richards after we traded out of the first round. Exciting draft so far but I'm still waiting for BB to piss me off tomorrow lol.

Draft has broken in such a way that two of my top-8 players are still on the board and both are defensive guys (Hurst and Oliver) and some of my top tier-2 guys (Landry, Key, etc.) are still around, and they're all defense. I was hoping for Jackson too but they'll be able to address pass rush and secondary next round.
my head is spinning tbh lol. exhausted from work, got home late and the draft just flew by even though it took a few hours. So I haven't checked how many 1's i got left on there. just looked lol Landry, Oliver, Jackson, Daniels, bryan, reid, guice left for 1st.

Were gona have a killa draft i feel it. I loved Rivers (Rush5) & (Garcia OT1) they just happen to be hurt, nothing anyone can do about that but their both back.

Wynn was a top 8 overall guy & Michel was RB6.

Honestly Im not in shock but I just cant believe we got such a blue chip player in Wynn & Michel by most standards.

Both will be OROY guys imho if healthy. Esp Michel. Guys this dude is electric. Hes a beast, 3 down back and a playmaker. Our backfield is absolutely loaded. Expect a lot of 2 back sets. I cant imagine we don't keep Rex or Sony in the backfield & in the slot while expose defenses intentions. I had him rated higher than Kamara and he def should have that type of effect.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the obvious here but two UG players that literally play together & work in tandem at times. This was a very planned out 1st round. I know again stating the obvious but we didn't know true intentions until now even though Ive mocked Wynn to the Pats and wanted him.

Recap
We got two blue chippers and still have all our picks left.

Fumbling doesn't concern me as it is something that good coaching can usually fix. I'm much more worried about the injuries.

Love the player and what he can bring to this offense though. RB was a hole with Dion leaving, albeit not quite as widely discussed as other areas. I feel a helluva lot better with Michel on board.
