Draft Rumors

I'd say the same for Mayfield.

I mean, if folks here think that Jackson might be a "smokescreen" for the Pats, why isn't it equally possible that Mayfield is a smokescreen for other teams?

The Patriots own all the NFL's smokescreen generators. Other NFL teams are crude half-men drawing names on the wall of a cave. They have no guile at all.

Why because the pats are showing interest? Lol. I am not buying it. I do think mayfield could be a good QB. He's a tad taller than Brees in centimeters. He's my 3rd favorite QB after Rosen and Darnold.

Maybe the Jets prefer Rosen too.

Fair enough. There’s a reason LJ is the most polarizing player in this draft.

I think Josh Allen is the most polarizing player in the draft. Arif Hasan did an aggregate big board and the range for Allen is all over the place; Jackson's variance is about equal to Baker Mayfield's, most pundits have him fairly close to the 15-20 range (I suspect there's more variance upwards with Jackson, as there's a surprising number of folks who like him as QB2 or even QB1 in this draft). Very few of the draftniks have the bizarre visceral reaction to Jackson you see here. Allen, on the other hand...

Hasan's been doing it for a number of years now and Allen's the most variable player he's had.

I guess I should’ve Clarified polarizing with regards to fans and posters on this board (they either love him or hate him). Just look at the responses to us bringing him in for a visit. I don’t think any other player we brought in for a visit is getting multi page threads about it.

In the draft challenge game I have the Patriots taking Wynn and Guice in the 1st. They're two of my top-5 players. I might prefer a quarterback but I suspect the good ones will all be gone by the time the Patriots pick. A wild card would be if Josh Allen falls to #23 but all the other quarterbacks are gone.

Maybe. I haven't been excited about a draft as this one for a long time. If we don't draft a QB i hope we go defense early.

Yup. There’s so many question marks both generally and for the Pats. Even is we don’t trade up, there’s still he opportunity to make 4 top picks. It’s like 2011 and 2012.

I’m not too bothered about need this time around, I just want good players and Wynn certainly fits. Guice does too, just not necessarily a great positional value.

black quarterbacks are always polarizing on fan boards and sports radio heavily populated with white baby boomers

In any case, I don't even love Jackson all that much. I have him right in the range most pundits do. I'd take him after Rosen and Mayfield as quarterbacks go. I just feel inclined to defend him because I think he has as good a chance as anyone else in the draft to be really good, the antipathy towards him does not appear to be rational, and I think he has the best shot among the quarterbacks to be available when the Patriots pick. I also think this is the year the Patriots should take a quarterback because you get 6 years of cost control and that gets you a starter unless Brady truly is timeless, and they appear to be doing work on the quarterbacks.

I've mentioned this in the draft board but I think the pendulum has swung a bit far on running backs. When you've got four picks in the first two rounds, you can afford to grab a guy who's got Marshawn Lynch-plus upside.

I would imagine Guice renders Jeremy hill useless if that’s the direction we go. I love the Wynn pick

Keep that nonsense out of here.

Mayfield
Rosen
Allen

All polarizing.

All polarizing.

I agree but none to the level of Jackson, who's dismissed as an inaccurate rushing quarterback who can't read defenses by people who have never watched him take a single snap and are judging purely by a statline and the color of his skin.

That's ********, and you know it:

I think Josh Allen is the most polarizing player in the draft.

That's ********, and you know it:

Among amateur and professional draft pundits. Not on fan boards. That Lamar Jackson is perceived as more polarizing than Allen here - as the poster I was quoting insinuated - when the people who put in time on the draft have a pretty steady grade on him suggests that there's something else at play. Unconsciously, in most cases.

I know you're going to disagree with me on this and it was completely predictable that you'd be the one jumping in when I dropped that. It's like Deus bait, you can set your watch to it. But there's absolutely no point in going back and forth on it.
