But then we take a drop off in the slot (Edelman>Matthews) and on the outside (cooks>Edelman). This is assuming edelman is 100% and my cooks>Edelman is based on playing on the outside not that cooks is an overall better wr.

Just have a feeling Belichick doesn't want to tie up Watkins kind of cap number for Brandin and would rather have draft picks on rookie cap to play.

Matthews wouldn't have to be primarily a middle-distance slants-and-crossers guy out of the slot and banish Edelman to boundary routes. The offense might be able to use a guy who can run the middle-distance outs/comebacks/curls. Cooks did a bit of that (successfully) toward the end of last season. Mitchell became very good at it during the second half of 2016. LaFell was good there, too. Brandon Lloyd was a master at it.

Anything is possible, we've learned that much over the years. But WRs signed quickly this off-season and for a lot of crazy money. I can't imagine Belichick is going to use a WR still available a month into free agency as the reason to ship off Cooks.

If we sign Matthews to anymkre than a camp fodder deal you would have to assume they are considering dealing Cooks.

Take a bow Chris! You too Robert Weathers!

Yep, good call, guys.

We haven’t signed Matthews though, and he’s onto TEN for another visit, tomorrow.

We need some speed. Hogan likely will be our only consistent deep threat. Dorsett's not consistent and i don't see how he will grasp this offense. Mitchell's more of a move the chains guy and idk about his knees.

Seriously?

Dorsett had no Camp or OTAs in which to learn the Pats' offensive system. In spite of that, his 16.2 YPC was second only to Cooks, and his 67% catch rate was better than Cooks, Hogan or Gronk. In fact, in the second half of the season, Dorsett caught 8 of 10 for 109 yards, and then 2 of 3 for 50 yards in the playoffs.

Oh, yeah, he also blocks downfield really well.

I'm withholding judgment on Dorsett until after the Pats coaches have had a chance to actually teach him the offense, but I think he's had a really promising start.

BTW, Gronk has been a consistent "deep threat" for the Pats for years.
